Britney Spears- Toxic

The music throughout has a high temp which is good for highly energetic so that
Britney and others involved within the music video can dance to it, and also the
lyrics in the song match the fast paced music. The lyrics within the song show
Britney is not like her old self in her music videos/songs shes previously made
as, she has matured. An example quote from the lyrics to show this would be
Too high, cant come down this indicate that she is in a stage in her life where
she is taking drugs, this appeals to young adults as they may be doing the same
thing.
Camerawork Throughout the music video the camera focuses on Britney
sexualising herself by focusing on her body language such as the way she moves
or presents specific body parts. For example, her leg and bum. The use of a long
shot was used to show herd dancing and to show the importance for why is
famous in the first place.
Genre and mise-en-scene The music video includes a lot of movement, as
Britney Spears is known for her dancing. For example she lifts her legs high over
the laser, making are sexualise herself in a seductive way towards her audience
presenting a more mature Britney. Which are dance moved throughout consist of
similar choreography, which shows her audience she has grown up. Her
costumes are bare and revealing making her sexualised, compared to her music
video baby whereby she is wearing a school uniform.
The beginning shot of two birds flying away represents freedom, symbolising
escape and presenting how she wants to be free, this also relates to how own
image as individual is created by her, this is why it all lead to a breakdown
because she had to uphold this image.
Editing The video contains rapid editing this is to mirror the tempo of the
music.
Intertextuality when Britney dresses as a spy this is a futuristic scene which has
link to Batman, it looks as if she is conveying her as a superhero figure.
Narrative and performance The narrative within Toxic relates back to Steven
Archers definition of a music video whereby the elements of performance are
that so Britney can brag about her sexualised dancing skills. However the
narrative story line is based on a female spy who goes to any extreme to get
what she wants which is presented all in a sexualised way.
Voyeurism Britney is seen to be a much sexualised object within the clip this is
shown by her revealing costumes and camera shots focussing on her body.
However she is the superhero throughout and also gives a wink at the end of the
video which give alternative ideas, as men are normally stereotypically
presented as the masculine super hero who saves the day.
