Warm-up: Ss look at the Word Builder and find the phrases in the photos. After
Ss have checked their answers, ask them what else they can see in the
picture.
Extra: Practise how to talk about UK money. If you have any UK coins and
notes, show them to the class and elicit how to say the amounts. Write some
prices on the board for Ss to read aloud, e.g. (4.50p four pounds fifty
pee/pence; 84p eighty-four pee/pence; 1.10 one pound ten pee/pence)

Exercise 2: Advise Ss to focus on finding the answers to the question and not
to worry about understanding everything in the dialogue at this stage.

Exercise 3: Ss look at the Key Expressions and classify them accordingly.

Extra: Play the recording from Exercise 2 again for Ss to listen and focus on
pronunciation and intonation patterns. Ss then work in groups of four, reading
aloud the dialogues and taking turns to read each part.

Exercise 4: Before Ss work in pairs, ask them to find three uncountable nouns
in the list of prices. Ss ask and answer questions about all the prices, using the
Key Expressions. Ss then work in pairs acting out shopping dialogues.

Your Challenge: Exercise 1: Ss read Toms postcard and say whether he likes
Devon or not.

Ending the lesson:


Exercise 2: Read the questions with the class. Elicit one or two example
answers for each question. Ss then work individually, writing notes for their
postcard. Help with any new vocabulary Ss need. Check their draft sentences
before they write a postcard for homework.
