AVEVA Administration

AVEAV Administration is supplied as a separate product and consists of the follo

wing modules:
ADMINISTRATION
LEXICON
ADMINISTRATION
Large projects designed using AVEVA E3D 2.1 are usually broken down into individu
al areas (either physical areas or design areas), depending on the physical size
, complexity and configuration of the project.
On a large project, the system administrator first agrees with project and desig
n management, the breakdown of the AVEVA E3D 2.1 project into sections which:
Are relevant to the needs of project reporting and control
Form reasonable design subdivisions with sensible match-lines and design content
Enable enough designers
t their design tasks.
In much the same way as
e and so on), AVEVA E3D
se Teams can consist of
r physical work areas.
The main features are:

Databases
Multiple Databases (MDBs)
Database management functionality.
AVEVA Administration includes a database integrity checking utility, used to chec
k for inconsistencies in the contents of the databases and to derive statistical
information about the use of the database storage capacity.
Note:
AVEVA Administration also allows the system administrator to reconfigure a projec
t, which may be necessary to:
Compact databases at intervals, freeing disk space
Upgrade AVEVA E3D 2.1

projects when the database structure changes

Compare the contents of two similar databases; for example, to create a modifica
tion record.
LEXICON
LEXICON is supplied as a module within the AVEVA suite of products and allows th
e system administrator to carry out the following:
Create and modify User Defined Attributes and User Defined Element Types
Group similar elements for administrative ease
Delete elements
View all available elements in a Explorer window
Create and modify Database Views

Create and modify the schema for distributed attributes.

MONITOR
The MONITOR module is commonly used to query the status of a projects users and
access rights. MONITOR allows basic querying of database information which norma
lly can only be obtained using AVEVA Administration (which can only be accessed b
y a Free user).
MONITOR can also be used to quickly change a password of the currently logged in
user or completely switch to another user (if the user credentials are known).
Depending on the user type (Free or General), MONITOR can be used to change acce
ss rights and defer databases. Batch processing and simply messaging can also be
achieved.
If there is a problem with a project that inhibits another module from loading,
then the software will automatically load the MONITOR allowing simple diagnostic
s to be conducted using its command line interface (refer to Using MONITOR for f
urther information.).
