Our Thesis:
Cultural interaction, cooperation, competition, and conflict
between empires, nations, and people is exemplified by
the events during the Cold War through political,
economic, and social developments between North
America and Russia. (Andoni)

Political Changes
-

Political and military

tension between Russia
and United States were on
the utmost high during
1947-1991 period
Particularly the United
States and Soviet Union -usually called the Cold
World
European allied armies
were divided into Eastern
and Western halves, held
by Soviet and American
forces.

Nikita Khrushchev made a threat while

addressing Western ambassadors at a reception
at the Polish embassy in Moscow on November
18, 1956.
Politically, we moved for a very polite political
system with Democrats and Republicans getting
along pretty well to a much more divided system.
The Democratic Party lost the South and politics
became divided much more along geographic
lines

Economic Effects Of The Cold War On America

-

Americans advocated Free

Market
Soviets Promoted Communism
The extreme costs of the
military posed a threat on the
American economy
As the war went on the military
funding quintupled
During the majority of the Cold
War, the general population
was very unhappy with the
money spent on defense

The US military spent over 2 billion

dollars every year for cold war
expenditures
The nation debt plummeted into the
trillions during this war.

Social Development
-

This Paranoia was not only fed by

the daily fear of bombs but also
hollywood propaganda in the
movie industry.
Life also changed for Americans by
the growth of communism in the
northeast of the world in russian,
china and so much more the daily
threat of invasion was real.
Lifestyles also changed because
fears of an air-raid so people had
bunkers made for as event such
this.

During this 43rd year of war in daily life

America was changed. Americans had
daily paranoia because of threats made
by Nikita Khrushchev. We feared Russia
and their bombs.

Cultural Interaction
-

Cold War alliances were NATO and the

Warsaw Pact. Both Nato and Warsaw
Pact was an example of democratic and
socialist nations.
During the late 1990s, NATO continued
its existence beyond the Cold War Era.

They gained nations in Eastern Europe during the late 1990s.

NATO also recruited West Germany because Warsaw Pact sparked a
revision in NATO.
September 1951, countries such as the US, Australia, and New Zealand
have signed the Anzus treaty - a different kind of alliances.
