The Department of Human Resource Development, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University,
Surat is organizing a one-day International Seminar on Contemporary Issues in
Development in Collaboration with International Institute for Development Studies (IIDS)
Australia.
Themes of the Seminar: Contemporary Issues in Development
Seminar Objectives

Provide a platform for researchers, academicians, policy makers to present their


research, results, trends, concerns and challenges.

Feature inspiring talks by experts and academicians that complement the theme of the
seminar.

Area of Focus
We invite original papers from academicians, industry professionals, research scholars and
independent consultants/professionals from NGOs for paper presentation for the seminar. We
welcome full length research papers, conceptual work, case studies related to any of the
following topics, but not limited:

Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger

Achieve Universal Primary Education

Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women

Reduce Child Mortality

Improve Maternal Health

Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases

Ensure Environmental Sustainibility

Global Partnership for Development

Registration: Participants should send their registration from on or before November 25,
2016
Registration Fee:
Academicians: 2000/Corporate Executives: 3000/Research Scholars and Students: Rs. 1000/Foreign Delegates: 300 US $
Note: This registration fee must be submitted on or before November 25, 2016 after that or
spot registration fee including above mention fee + 500/-. Registration fees can be paid
through D. D. / Cheque should be made in the name of Vishleshan Trust, Payable at
Surat. or in Cash at department of Human Resource Development during office hours (11:00
am to 5:00 pm).
T.A. D.A.: No TA-DA will be provided by the organizers to any Participants.
Accommodation: Accommodation will be provided to outstation participants in the
University guest house on payment basis depending up on availability of rooms.

About the Department
The department of Human Resource Development was established in 1978-79. The main
objective of this department is to carry out teaching in the context of social change. The
Department started Master of Labour Welfare programme in 1987 and Master of Human
resource Development programme in the year 1995. These two are the flagship programmes
of the Department. The total strength of the students in these two programmes is 150 per
batch. The students who have passed out from the Department with the degree of MHRD or
MLW are all well-placed in reputed organizations.
The Department introduced the course of Post-Graduate Diploma in Research Methodology
in 2006. Faculties and research scholars from different disciplines like Economics, Sociology,
Management, Medicine, HR, and Education etc. are pursuing this course on research
methodology. The Department has introduced a Certificate Course in SPSS in 2012. Two
Post-Graduate Diplomas - in Human Resource Management and Corporate Legal
Management are introduced in 2013.Two more Post-Graduate Diplomas: Training and
Development; and Corporate Social Responsibility were launched in the year 2014.The
Department also launched Post-Graduate Certificate Course in Research Methodology and
Advance Certificate Course in SPSS in the same year. A Master degree course MA in Human
Resource Management and Labour Relations is being launched this year. The Five Years
Integrated Programme in Human Resource Development is also getting launched in the year
2015, leading to award of MA(HRD) after five years and BA(HRD) after three years. The
total intake of students in all courses is 540. Over and above, students are registered under the
external mode and there is a provision for intake of foreign students. The Department
introduces new courses and revises existing courses as per the changing needs of the industry.
A Centre for Human Development Studies is also set up in the Department to study the issues
pertaining to various aspects of Human Development. The Department undertakes researchbased projects from the Government as well as from the corporates.
About Vishleshan
Vishleshan Trust regularly publishing VISHLESHAN the Bi-Annual Refereed journal of
Research and Reading in Economics since 1975. It has established the name as a research
journal of repute at all India level with ISSN 0973-6891 under Vishleshan Trust, Surat,
Gujarat. Many of the well-known economists of the world such as Prof. Hayek, Prof.

International Institute for Development Studies (IIDS)
The International Institute for Development Studies (IIDS) Australia is a Non-Profit making
Research and Field Action Oriented Institute for Developmental Studies. It came into
existence in Calcutta, India in 1990 but in 1998 it was set up as a separate entity in Brisbane,
Queensland, Australia at 31, Todd Street, Taringa East, Brisbane 4048, to address economic,
social and environmental issues affecting the well-being of poorer sections of communities in
Middle and Low Income Countries, particularly in South Asian and East Asian Regions as
well as to undertake field action on a small scale to remove illiteracy and to spread basic
education to elderly members of economically poorer families in these regions. It also has a
plan to impart to adult members of these families, knowledge in Primary and Preventive
Health Care to reduce infant mortality rate and to improve lactating mothers health etc. To
this end in view, the IIDS aims to conduct camps on education and health care in India and in
other LDCs on a regular basis with financial support from private donor organizations.
Among its major activities, the prominent one is that of organising and holding International
conferences in major cities around the world on major developmental issues.

Guidelines for Full Paper Submission
We encourage academicians, research scholars, and HR professionals to submit their full
papers which would undergo a double blind peer review process. Kindly refer to the
following guidelines before submitting your manuscript:
Abstracts may be between 200-400 words in length and cover a brief introduction,
followed by the core objectives of the paper, methodology used, findings in brief and
implications along with key references.
Each research paper/ case study must clearly address one or more of the above listed
topics.
Submitted manuscripts must not have been previously published, presented, accepted
for publication for any other journal or research conference/ seminar.
The entire manuscript (including cover page, abstract, main text, exhibits, appendices,
and references) should be included in one document.
All author related information name, affiliation, and contact details should be
mentioned only in the cover page and any information conveying identification of the
author(s) (including name, affiliation, and acknowledgements) must be removed from
the manuscript.
The manuscript must be submitted in A4 size pages with double-spaced, Times New
Roman-12 pitch in MS Word compatible format text.
The length of research papers (including exhibit and references) should be between
3000-8000 words. Case studies may be between 2000-5000 words.
All manuscripts must be formatted according to the APA 6TH Edition style guide
available at: http://www.apastyle.org/manual/
List the references in alphabetical order at the end of the paper. All references must be
single spaced. The references should be distinguished by hanging indents.
Papers MUST ONLY be submitted through E-mail at: seminarhrd2015@gmail.com
the authors need to send along with the paper their brief bio-data and the certificate of
originality and consent for publication in proceedings without which it will not be
accepted.

All the papers will be blind reviewed by an expert committee with respect to their
quality, originality, and relevance. Articles will be subject to plagiarism check before
being sent for review process.

In case of joint authors, each author has to individually register to attend/participate and avail
the Seminar kit. Otherwise seminar kit will be provided to the registered author only.
