As a person who knows Ms. Seneviratne for nearly five years, and her external graduate advisor at the University of Peradeniya, I am very familiar with her skills, capabilities, and productivity. I have had academic and research positions at several universities in the United States and am quite familiar with caliber of students who are qualified to follow a graduate program as the one you have at Texas Tech. I have no hesitation in recommending Ms. Seneviratene for admission into your graduate program. As you can see from her CV and the Transcript, she has a solid background in Mathematics, extensive experience in teaching undergraduate students, and a research accomplishments with an excellent publication in a peer-reviewed journal, a book chapter, and presentations at conferences. Ms. Seneviratne was admitted to the University of Peradeniya through a very competitive national entrance examination for many thousands of students across Sri Lanka. One has to be in the top 5% for being accepted to such a reputed university and she had achieved that goal through an excellent highschool education. At the Department of Mathematics at the University of Peradeniya, she followed a graduate program in Mathematics & Computers science and she was able to achieve a GPA of 3.5 out 4 which is excellent for that program. Most importantly, she conducted research on an excellent topic entitled Applicability of Zimmermann Multi Objective Fuzzy Linear Programming under large vagueness which was completed successfully leading to a peer-reviewed publication in the International Journal of Research in Information Technology. In addition, her excellence in this topic was demonstrated by a book chapter she has published very recently. In her current research, she is conducting a study on applying Non-homogenous Markov Models to understand mechanisms of spatial and temporal patterns of climate in Sri Lanka and its linkage to teleconnections. As her external advisor, I believe she has been a quick learner and has made excellent progress. I am confident in assuring that Ms. Seneviratne has an excellent skill for research which will help her to conduct graduate research at your university. Ms. Seneviratnes experience in teaching should be an asset to your university. She has worked as tutor, and a lecturer in her department and that requires instructing a large group of undergraduate students. Further, she is currently working as an instructor at the Department of Engineering Mathematics at Faculty of Engineering and that requires an excellent knowledge of basic and applied mathematics which she possesses. Her skills and experience in teaching undergraduate students from 2011 to 2015 should be very valuable to your university should you decide to assign that responsibility. She also has an excellent command of the English language which help her in teaching. Ms. Seneviratne is honest and intelligent. She has an excellent attitude and goal driven.
