"Soul" - By Samsung
Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. announced the launch of 'Soul', Samsung's new flagship
product for 2008. Samsung named 'Soul'' to honor the completion of its exclusive 'Ultra
Edition' series of handsets which offer this perfect balance of design and features.
On the occasion, Sangsuk Roh, Country Manager Samsung Electronics said: "Soul is set
to continue the success of past Ultra Edition handsets, such as D900 and U600, and will fur-
ther enhance Samsung's leadership in the premium phone category."
Soul enhances the usability for the user with features that adapt to the user depending
on the application. With Magical Touch by DaCP™, navigation indicators on the keypad of
the phone change according to the user's needs, making navigation of the menus simple,
intuitive and direct. The navigation panel's icons change according to function.
At only 12.9mm thin, it is equipped with professional photographic functions including a
5 megapixel camera. Soul answers today's customer needs as the perfect digital camera
and multimedia mobile combined into one single device. Features such as face detection,
image stabilizer and Wide Dynamic Range (WDR), which are very up-to-date features even
in today's digital cameras, are also equipped in Soul.
Users can enjoy super-fast Internet access through the 7.2 Mbps High Speed Downlink
Packet Access (HSDPA) browser and share images or video taken with the phone. With 7.2
Mpbs HSDPA, users can also download songs at a faster speed compared to average 3G
networks. Soul is also perfect for music listeners with features such as Music library naviga-
tion, digital power amplifier by ICEpower® technology by Bang & Olufsen ICEpower.
LG Viewty
LG Viewty is a 5.1 megapixel camera phone with a Schneider Kreuznach lens and
advanced imaging capabilities. The front of the LG KU990 has a large touchscreen. The full
technical specifications of the KU990 Viewty include a 5.1 megapixel camera that comes
with a flash, electronic image stabilization, photo editing and single-click uploading to
YouTube.
Video capture on the LG Viewty is up to 120 fps (frames per second) - this is twice the
frame rate of an HDTV. Schneider Kreuznach are the people who make lenses for Kodak,
so that's a promising start when it comes to the KU990's optical credentials. Combine this
with the 5.1 megapixel camera, and the KU990 Viewty looks very good indeed.
The "U" in KU990 should indicate that this is a 3G device, and you can reasonably expect
to see a multimedia player, web browser, email client and all the usual features. You can
safely assume that the KU990 / Viewty will be competing directly against the N95, where the
LG has the advantage of a touchscreen.

We have seen Windows Mobile devices for quite some time now. We waited for long for HTC Kaiser,
which has now been released as the HTC TyTN II in Pakistan by Mobile Zone. These days everyone
wants a device that does everything: high speed HSDPA multi-band internet, fast processor, large key-
board, small body, large amount of storage and memory, WiFi, Bluetooth, finger touch screen, GPS
Navigation, MP3 player, quality digital camera, etc. We want it all, and the TyTN II is the first real attempt
at giving it to us. Hence, HTC's tagline in their marketing materials reads "The Ultimate Mobile Companion."
We'll give the TyTNII a very thorough look, and determine whether it should be added to your phone wish
list. Read on!
WHAT'S HOT
You would think it might be enough to masterfully incorporate every type of current mobile device technol-
ogy into one device, which is essentially what the TyTN II does... but the most innovative feature is the flexibil-
ity. The TyTN II actually has four different usage methods. Maybe you like to use it with one hand, maybe you
like to type with two thumbs, maybe you like to write on the screen, maybe you like to set it on the table and
watch YouTube videos.
First, since the TyTN II has TouchFLO, as made popular by the HTC Touch, you can use the device with one
hand and one finger. You can flick your finger across the screen to scroll or pan through anything, and you can
use an on-screen software based keyboard for input. This type of usage has recently
been popularized by the Apple iPhone. Second, you can also use a stylus with
the touch screen for more accurate interaction and handwriting recognition.
The third option is to slide out the keyboard and use two thumbs to
navigate the interface as well as input text.
The 4th way to interact with the TyTN II is to tilt up the screen and set it on a
desk or table. You can use your fingers on the keyboard to navigate and input text
while still being able to see the screen without holding it up or hovering above it.
Now, Apple would have you believe that the finger-touch-screen usage configu-
ration is the best, but obviously (in using the TyTN II) having the flexibility to switch
between usage configuration modes is much more valuable to the user. Of course,
we can't forget the TyTN II's spectacular list of specifications.
It's got Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi b/g, 400MHz Qualcomm MSM7200 CPU, 256MB ROM,
128MB RAM, Windows Mobile 6 Professional, a 2.8" QVGA screen screen, quadband
GSM/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900Mhz), Triband UMTS (850/1900/2100Mhz), HSDPA,
HSUPA, USB 2.0, built-in GPS (NMEA 0183), front-facing VGA camera, and a 3.1MP rear
camera with autofocus. That is an extremely impressive list of specifications. You might
expect some of the features to be unreliable or not so great. On the contrary, the TyTNII, in my
opinion, currently has the best Bluetooth radio, best GPS implementation, best keyboard, and the
fast processor and extra memory makes everything run very smoothly.
WHAT'S IN THE BOX
The HTC TyTN II comes with a USB sync cable, AC adapter, stereo headphones with talk button/mic/volume control, belt pouch case,
screen protector, software CD including ActiveSync and a trial version of Microsoft Outlook 2007, software CD with GPRS Monitor, SPB
Backup, and TomTom 6 Taster Edition, extensive full color manual, Getting Started guide,
and an extra stylus.
THE DEVICE
One of the most innovative features of the TyTN II is it's slide out keyboard
and tilting screen combination. This allows the device to transform from a touch-
screen phone to a table-top mini-computer. Other devices with slide-out key-
boards still need to be held up with two hands so you can see the screen. With
the TyTN II, you can just set it on the table and tilt the screen up to watch a
movie or read through email while poking at the keyboard with your fingers.
OVERALL IMPRESSION
Two words: Very Impressed. I don't even care that I don't have 3G support
here in Pakistan yet. The TyTN II does it all. For me, the improved Bluetooth
and consequently improved Voice Command via Bluetooth recognition capabil-
ities are well worth it alone. Add on top of that a much improved GPS Navigation
implementation, a slide out keyboard/flip-up screen, TouchFLO scrolling, 3MP auto-
focus camera, Windows Mobile 6 features and a ton of memory... and there's no turning back. The TyTN
II truly is the ultimate mobile companion... at least for now.

Motorola's new W180 is an entry-level, inexpensive mobile phone basically aimed at the youth. This humble
W180 intends making a place for itself in the teenager pockets in times when the generation now is drooling
over camera-clad-music-thumping hi-tech toys. Nevertheless, different people have different budgets. This
basic mobile phone is not only low in priced but essentially allow making and receiving calls, text messaging,
and includes FM radio, calendar and speaker phone facility as well.
It sounds like a pretty good deal. With its low price, great looks, features, and performance put together, it makes for a
worthwhile purchase in the entry-level mobile phone category. It is the phone which is basically suitable for new
beginner phone users as it is easy-to-use and affordable.
Design:
The W180 itself is really light in weight, coming with only 85 gram. The thin candy bar form factor which measures only
14 mm in size isn't slim but looks quite slick, at least on the face of it as it. The glossy and non-bumpy frontal makes it
seem like a good deal for the price tag it holds. Unlike its glossy face, W180's rear has a matte finish, a clean
uninterrupted back and is quite comfortable to hold. It has a large bright color screen and a keypad with non-protruding
soft keys that seem integrated in the skin of the phone; all except for the 4-way D-pad and the main menu key that it
encircles, are slightly puffed.
Features:
The easy-to-use form factor gives you access to all of the tools you need like phone, data, and music in an intuitive
user interface. I liked the menu of this phone - clean, simple, and fast.
Menu:
On pressing the main menu key, you get an option of 9 menu functions. Here's a chunk of what it includes:
1. Message: I like text messaging in general, but W180 didn't exactly delight me in this aspect. Apart from the
regulars, it allows you to read, write, and save up to 750 messages. The word bank is impressive, but when one has to
press "select" after every word formed in order to add it to the message, it can be a bit irritating, if not just that, tiring for
your thumb as well. All this made me miss T9 so much!
2. Contacts: You can add, delete, edit your contact list, and even add a speed dial numbers. You don't have the option
to "send contact" information. The phone can store up to 500 contacts.
3. Recent Calls: View dialed numbers, as well as missed and received calls.
4.Games: It is preloaded with 3 games; Rebel, Football, and Crazy. It is nice for people who've never played PC games.
5. Extras: W180 houses the calculator, an alarm clock, and a stopwatch. It even has a calendar, which is good to have.
6. Ring Styles: This is where you can select customized ring styles to suit your needs at different time it's like the "profiles". The phone comes
preloaded with 35 polyphonic ring tones as well as 2 different vibration types. You can also compose up to 4 tones on your own.
7. Settings: This features the regulars - call divert, phone status, phone and network setup, et all.
8. FM Radio: Stores up to 9 channel frequencies. You can access this function if your handsfree is connected to the phone.
9. Personalise: Through this function, you can choose what shortcut each key should do. Also, it allows you to change the theme of the phone by
allowing you to choose from some vibrant colors, 5 cool Indian wallpapers, and some screen-savers.
Battery:
Following the Motorola tradition, W180's battery proves to be average as well, although according to the manufacturers, this
phone has an extended battery life. It comes with a 3.7V Lithium-ion battery. After a couple of full battery charge-discharge sessions for the new
phone, on an average, it lasted me for about a day and a little more after moderate use which included calls, radio, and a bit of games.
For energizing itself, this phone uses a USB-based charger which needs to be plugged into an electrical outlet. USB charging via PC is not
supported. An irritant which surfaces while using the phone in "low battery" mode is the recurring beep (like hiccups) alert sound. It won't stop till
you put the phone to charge, with the USB cord acting like a pacifier.
Audio:
One obviously doesn't expect wonders from this phone, since the company's not asking you to pay a premium for anything fancy in the first place.
All I can say about the sound quality is that it is loud and clear, and quite decent. The FM radio function allows you to save up to 9 channel
frequencies automatically or manually. Listening to the radio on this is fun.
Conclusion:
"What more could you ask for in a basic phone? Well, if you don't have too much problem charging
your phone almost everyday, don't mind an additional connector for the handsfree,
and aren't a text messaging fan, this phone is good to go. A bit of tweaking is
required, yes, but for the looks and features, it does fit the bill. With stylish
looks and good features, this mobile phone is all set to become a favorite of
those who want a good mobile phone for a reasonable price.
