Activity: The goal of this activity is to have students create a 30 second elevator pitch. We have
prepared a prezi that we will walk through to start the lesson. The prezi should take about 25-30
minutes to work through. We will discuss what soft skills are, what makes an elevator pitch,
what are important things to include and what are less appropriate things to include. After we
have walked through that, we will allow students to start working on their elevator pitch. We will
ask students to write out what activities they have been involved in inside and outside of school.
We also will ask students to discuss one hobby that they have. This will be a very rough draft to
begin.
Evaluation: The elevator pitch will continue to be fine tuned through ELA classes to meet their
Speaking/Listening standards. We will go back into classrooms in about a week and have the
students film their elevator pitch for a final review and upload it to Career Cruising for them to
have as a reference for years to come.
Estimated Time: 43 Minutes

Specific Suggestions: This lesson is being used in conjunction to a field trip our 7th grade
students are taking to the Lawrence College and Career Center. This could be used for a career
day or mock interview as well. Our 7th grade ELA teachers jumped at helping us with this
because those standards are hard to meet and this is a great way to collaborate.
