MakerSpace Band Saw Safety Quiz Review

Use the following outline to study for the MakerSpace Band Saw Safety Quiz. This is only an
outline. You are responsible for knowing all information covered in class during instruction
and demonstrations.

1. Know all safety rules and regulations for operating a Band Saw. This can include what to wear and
how to manage what you are wearing when operating the Band Saw.
2. Know what type of cut is cut best with a Band Saw.
3. Know what type of cut is used to reduce stress on a blade when cutting a curved or irregular shape
with the Band Saw.
4. Know when it is safe to make adjustments to a Band Saw.
5. Know the procedure or set of procedures you should follow before walking away from a Band
Saw.
6. Know the safety zone spacing on all sides of the Band Saw blade.
7. Know the recommended height that a Band Saw guard must be over the height of the stock that you
are cutting.

Use the following outline to study for the MakerSpace Drill Press Safety Quiz. This is only an
outline. You are responsible for knowing all information covered in class during instruction
and demonstrations.

1. Know all safety rules and regulations for operating a Drill Press. This can include what to wear
and how to manage what you are wearing when operating the Drill Press.
2. Know where the stock should be resting when drilling with the Drill Press.
3. Know the procedure(s) used when adjusting the height of the Drill Press table.
4. Be able to determine how to properly secure stock when precision, accuracy, and stability are
desired when working with the Drill Press.
5. Know the procedure(s) used when inserting and securing a drill bit into a Drill Press.
6. Know the importance, purpose, and maintenance of Drill Press tables.
7. Know the safety zone distance around a drill bit in the Drill Press.
8. Be able to determine whether body coverings or gloves may be used around a Drill Press.
9. Be able to determine the correct force that may be used when using the Drill Press.
10. Be able to determine when adjustments or corrections may be made to the Drill Press.
11. Know the proper use of a chuck key and the timing it should be used and removed when using a
Drill Press.
12. Be able to determine when to ask a MakerSpace supervisor or teacher for guidance or help
when using the Drill Press.

Use the following outline to study for the MakerSpace Miter Saw Safety Quiz. This is only an
outline. You are responsible for knowing all information covered in class during instruction
and demonstrations.

1. Know all safety rules and regulations for operating a Miter Saw. This can include what to wear
and how to manage what you are wearing when operating the Miter Saw.
2. Given an image of a piece of stock and an indication line of where you are planning to cut, be
able to determine what type of cut you would be making if you were to follow the indication line
with a Miter Saw.
3. Know the term given to any angled cut on a piece of stock.
4. Know how the size of a miter saw is determined.
5. Be able to determine what side of a measured line you should cut along when a specific
measured cut is desired. i.e.-Should you cut on the side of the measured line on the scrap or
keep side?
6. Know the safety zone distance around the Miter Saw blade.
7. Know when a blade guard may be removed when using a Miter Saw.
8. Know what to do when cutting long or large piece of stock with the Miter Saw.
9. Know the procedures on clearing debris and scrap around the Miter Saw.

11. Know the type of cut(s) allowed with the Miter Saw.
12. Know where hands should be located and what to avoid doing with your hands when using the
Miter Saw.

MakerSpace Nail Gun, Cordless Drill, and Sander Safety Quiz Review

Use the following outline to study for the MakerSpace Nail Gun, Cordless Drill, and Sander
Safety Quiz. This is only an outline. You are responsible for knowing all information covered
in class during instruction and demonstrations.

REVISIT, REFLECT, AND STUDY!


1. Know all safety rules and regulations for operating a Nail Gun, Cordless Drill, and Sander. This
can include what to wear and how to manage what you are wearing when operating all
equipment.
2. Be able to determine all procedures to follow and settings for properly connecting the air
compressor to the Nail Gun.
3. Be able to determine what you should do to prevent a nail from firing into your hand or into the
direction of somebody else.
4. Be able to determine how you can avoid the nail exiting the stock when using the Nail Gun.
5. Be able to determine the direction that the drill bit in a Cordless Drill should be spinning for
drilling a hole if you were to be looking down the Cordless Drill from the handle.
6. Know what direction the Cordless Drill must be spinning while the drill bit is entering and exiting
the stock that you are drilling.
7. Know the name of the feature on the Cordless Drill that holds the drill bit and know the
direction you would have to turn it to tighten or loosen its hold on the drill bit.
8. Be able to determine when clamps and vises should be used to hold the stock when using the
Cordless Drill.
9. Be able to determine when a backing board (scrap/waste wood) should be used underneath the
stock that is to be drilled while using the Cordless Drill.
10. Be able to determine how to keep control of the stock when using the Sander.

Use the following outline to study for the MakerSpace Table Saw Safety Quiz. This is only an
outline. You are responsible for knowing all information covered in class during instruction
and demonstrations.

1. Know all safety rules and regulations for operating a Table Saw. This can include what to wear
and how to manage what you are wearing when operating the Table Saw.
2. Given an image of a piece of stock and an indication line of where you are planning to cut, be
able to determine what type of cut you would be making if you were to follow the indication line
with a Table Saw.
3. Given an image of a feature on the Table Saw, be able to name the feature and identify the type
of cut made with a Table Saw while using it.
4. Know the minimum spacing of a board when push sticks must be used to rip a board.
5. Know when it is safe to make adjustments to a Table Saw.
