Reflection questions;
Students will be questioned
about prior knowledge to give
us a greater understanding of
the level they are each sitting
at; who needs to be challenged
and who needs to be given
more help on the topic.

Prior Knowledge

45 mins

Explain the expected learning of the unit

Explain the expected learning of the lesson
Briefly explain the activities occurring in lesson
What is expected from the students in the
lesson

Teaching Cues / Keywords

Ask students questions and create a classroom

discussion based on content they learnt last
lesson
Split the class up into table groups of 5-6
With the use of butchers paper and markers
students are to brainstorm what they think
performance enhancement is, strategies it
might include, strategies they may use with
their sports and pictures as well.
Create a discussion based on answers given
from groups, allow students to list more they
hear from other groups

New information

Each person needs to state two pieces of

information they learnt last class

Write down performance enhancement in the

middle
What do YOU think performance enhancement
is?
What are some strategies?
Do you use any performance enhancement
with your sport?
Is it before or after?
Write sentences or just words
Give me definitions if you need

10 mins

Conferencing with students;
conferencing with the student
individually allows us to assess
how
well
the
student
understands the content of
work and it gives them the
opportunity to ask questions
privately as they may feel
embarrassed or intimidated in
front of peers.

Butchers Paper Markers

Formative
Assessment
/
Reflection questions;
Students will be questioned
about knowledge on topic to
give us a greater understanding
of the level they are each
sitting at; who needs to be
challenged and who needs to
be given more help on the
topic.

Legal and illegal strategies

Physiological strategies
Anti Doping
Recovery Methods
Students may look at more once they
have watched these

Applying New Information

~5min

Students will use laptops/computers to go

through youtube videos to educate
themselves about performance
enhancement and different strategies
athletes use
Students are to take down notes for each
topic
Training Methods
Nutritional Strategies
Hydration Techniques
Psychological skills

Students will get back into their groups, with

their butchers paper

Students will add information they learnt onto
the butchers paper and can modify information
they think may be incorrect
Students are able to stick on graphs or
diagrams if they like

Reflection/Closure

The paper needs to be full of information and

diagrams
Is there a case study that is well known?

Students are to write down in their books 3

pieces of information they have learnt in the
lesson

3 pieces of information
Performance Enhancement Strategies
Mental Toughness Strategies
Next class we will be starting on your SAC / Report

Formative
Assessment
/
Reflection; students are asked
to write down information
gained from the lesson to show
a greater understanding of the
level they are each sitting at;
who needs to be challenged
and who needs to be given
more help on the topic.
