Alpine Goat
The Alpine is a medium to large sized breed of domestic goat known for its very
good milking ability. They have no set colours or markings (although certain
markings are discriminated against). They have horns, a straight profile and erect
ears.

Anglo-Nubian Goat
The breed was developed in Great Britain of native milking stock and goats from the
Middle East and North Africa. Its distinguishing characteristics include large,
pendulous ears and a "Roman" nose. Due to their Middle-Eastern heritage, AngloNubians can live in very hot climates and have a longer breeding season than other
dairy goats. Considered a dairy or dual-purpose breed, Anglo-Nubians are known for
the high butterfat content of their milk, although on average, the breed produces
less milk than other dairy breeds.

Saanen Goat
Saanen goats are a white or cream-colored breed of goat, named for the Saanen
valley in Switzerland. By the late 19th century they had spread across Europe, and
in the early 20th century were brought to the US. In the 21st century, they are
among the most popular dairy goat breeds, due to their high productivity and ease
of management.

Toggenburg Goat
The Toggenburg, nicknamed Togg, is a breed of milk goat, named after the region in
Switzerland where the breed originated, the Toggenburg valley in the Canton of St.
Gallen. It is considered the oldest registered breed.

Boer Goat
The Boer goat is a breed of goat that was developed in South Africa in the early
1900s for meat production. Their name is derived from the Afrikaans (Dutch) word
"boer", meaning farmer. Boer goats are a popular breed for meat and their breeding
season starts in August and runs through December. Mixed goats are best for small
herds because of the genetics in Boer for meat and the genetics in the other goat.

Native Goat
Philippine native goats dominate the goat population in the Philippines and are
raised primarily for their meat (chevon). Due to their early sexual maturity, short
gestation, short kidding or reproductive intervals and lower capital requirements
compared to cattle and carabaos, Philippine native goats are considered important
genetic resources.

Jersey
Jersey cows originated from English Channel Island of Jersey, a few kilometres from
the coast of France. They were first introduced to Australia in 1829 and spread
throughout Australia with the Australian Jersey Herd Society being formed in the
early 1900s. Jersey cattle are generally characterised as being a hardy, small breed
with high milk composition (protein and butterfat percentage) and medium milk
yield. They are typically a light cream to dark brown in colour.

Holstein Fresian
Holstein Friesian cows can be traced back more than 2000 years. They were first
imported into Australia in the mid 1800s. The name Holstein Friesian is derived
from the province of Friesland in the Netherlands and Schleswig-Holstein in the
Rhine delta region. They are characterized as being a versatile, large breed with
medium milk composition and high milk yield. The breeds colour is typically black
and white, ranging from almost totally white to totally black. They are the most
numerous dairy breed in Australia making up more than 60 % of commercial milking
cows in Australia.

Ayreshire
Ayreshire cows originated from Ayr in the southwest of Scotland. They were first
imported into Australia in the 1850s. The breeds coat colour can vary greatly from
any shade of red or brown with white or mahogany. They are characterized as
having a medium to high milk composition and medium to high milk yield. There are
only few whole Ayreshire herds being commercially milked in Australia.

Red Breeds & Illawarras


Illawarra cows originated from cross breeding a number of breeds in the Illawarra
region of New South Wales. They have been recognized as an individual breed since
1910. Coat colour is predominantly rich red, though some cattle are either roam or
red with a little white on the flanks. They are characterized as an extremely hardy
breed with medium too high milk yield and high milk protein content and medium
milk fat content.

Berkshire Pig
Berkshire pigs are a rare breed of pig originating from the English county of
Berkshire.
Herds of the breed are still maintained in England by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust
at Aldenham Country Park, Hertfordshire, and by the South of England Rare Breeds
Centre in Kent. The Berkshire is listed as vulnerable; as of 2008, fewer than 300
breeding sows were known to exist.[1] Some pigs of the breed are also kept in New
Zealand and Australia, but fewer than a hundred purebred sows are there now.

Duroc Pig
Duroc pig is an older breed of American domestic pig that forms the basis for many
mixed-breed commercial hogs. Duroc pigs are red, large-framed, medium length,
and muscular, with partially drooping ears, and tend to be one of the least
aggressive of all the swine breeds. They also have an excellent rate of gain.
The first pig to have its genome sequenced was a female Duroc named T.J. Tabasco

Hampshire Pig
The Hampshire pig is a domestic swine breed characterized by erect ears and a
black body with a whitish band around the middle, covering the front legs.
Hampshire hogs are noted for being well-muscled and rapid growers, and for
exhibiting good carcass quality when used as meat animals. When used as breeding
stock, the sows of this breed have been praised for their capacity as mothers,
having "extra longevity in the sow". Hampshires are good tempered; they do not
grow as fast as many cross-breds, but they do grow faster than Yorkshires.

Poland China Pig


The Poland China Pig is a domestic pig breed that has been derived from several
breeds of pig developed in the mid 1800,s in Warren and Butler counties and Miami
Valley, Ohio of the United States, by the breeding of Polish pigs, Big Chinas,
Hampshire and Berkshire. This domestic Poland China Pig is initially bred in the year
1816 in the Miami Valley in Ohio in the United States. The Poland China Pig breed is
the oldest pig breed in America. The Poland China Pig breeds rank highest in pork
production in the United States in terms of pounds (kilograms) of hog for every sow
for each year that was recorded at 2550 pounds (1,157 kg).

Landrace Pig
The American Landrace is a medium to large breed of domestic pig, white in colour,
with long bodies, fine hair, long snouts, and heavy, drooping ears. They are bred for
pork production.

Yorkshire Pig
The American Yorkshire, a breed of domestic pig, is the American version of the
Large White pig, white in color, with erect ears, which are different from the lop ears
of the chester white.The average litter size is 13 piglets per sow. American
Yorkshires are the most recorded swine breed in the United States.
