TRANSFERABLE SKILLS AUDIT

Name: Umair Kishver

Date: 23:10:2016

Course: Business level 3

Year: 2

Section 1
Consider the skills listed below and rate how important you think each skill is for employment and how competent you are in
this skill. Consider how each of these skills may enhance your performance, and allow you to develop and advance further.
You may wish to discuss these with your advisor of studies. Alternatively, you may wish to ask a friend or family member, and
to compare and discuss your separate findings.
Once you have rated yourself, multiply the number in the column marked Competence with that in the column Job
Importance. So, for example, if you feel that you are not very proficient in verbal and written communication (i.e. you have
rated your competence at 4), but that these skills are very important for employment (i.e. you have rated it at 5), then your
overall total score would be 5 X 4 = 20.

Section 2

This section will provide you with examples of the types of evidence you can provide to demonstrate your level of
competence with each skill.

I can to a certain extent express myself well in writing as

I have had to write many 'about myself' biographies for
various purposes and doing well in them

I have proven that I have the ability to network easily with

people as this proves with the amount of friends I have in
college and often engage in many outdoor activities.
I need to improve on this as I tend to mumble and get nervous in
front of big crowds.

year of college, I could easily subject to what the team members
wanted to do

It is vital to make sure that when you are talking to anyone

whether in a meeting or presentation, you have the right body

This is a big gap in my character and is something I have to

work on.

Identify your learning needs

Now pick three of the highest scoring skills from the above audit (by multiplying your scores as shown above) that you need to develop further.
List these below in order of priority.

Skill Area
1. Ability to supervise or
direct work of others=16

2. ability to express self

clearly and concisely to a
group of people= 20

Action Pan for Development and where you can access these
As my chosen career is a pilot, it is very important to have good supervision and good direction as it is important
to lead by example and be decisive when possibly a decisive situation comes up . Currently, I lack this ability to
lead others as I am a very shy and quite sort of person. So in order for me to counter this problem, I will work with
people more and try and engage myself more. Also I will try and learn how to supervise people by working in
groups and then try to supervise others in how to do the work. I also tend to seek advice from professionals at this.

Being a pilot, it is also important for you know how to be expressive in a group and be clear as this important to
layout instructions that are clear and affirmative when taking charge of 300 people daily. As of current, I gravely
lack this ability of being able to properly express myself as I am a very nervous and quite individual. I mumble as
well whilst talking in front of a groups of people. So in order for me to counter this problem of mine, it is
important that I engage with people and talk more and practice on my communication skills. Practising with my
classmates, talking in front of them on a regular basis is a good way.

3. ability to attend actively to

others views and ideas and
understand their point of
view=20

This is my biggest problem as I struggle massively struggle others and what they have to say. As a pilot, it is
crucial to interpret information in a proper manner as you have to listen to various instructions from a air traffic
controller and make sure you interpret them properly as it could be deadly if not. So this a ability I lack dearly so
in order for me to overcome this problem, I need to practise on how to interpret information quicker and more
effective which again has to be done by engaging with people into doing work. Also I tend to seek advice from
experts on how to overcome this gap.
