This Guide 10 Docs Every Apps DBA Must Read before upgrading Oracle EBusiness Suite (EBS) to R12.2 is starting point for any Apps DBA.
First as Oracle Apps DBA, you must know that Oracle E-Business Suite has
various upgrade paths, depending on existing version of Oracle E-Business
Suite.
Note: This is document assumes that you are upgrading from R12.0/R12.1
version of Oracle Applications to Oracle Applications R12.2.x

1. Understand Upgrade Overview & Concepts : First document you must

refer is Oracle E-Business Suite Upgrade Guide Release 12.0 and 12.1 to
12.2 https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E26401_01/doc.122/e48839.pdf
This is 112 pages document but totally worth reading (if you are like me
who would like to go in details and learn internals).
This document starts with Overview of Upgrade, then preparation for
Upgrade, Upgrading to 12.2, Configuring Online Patching (AD-OP), and
then finally post-upgrade steps.
Appendix in this document covers functional upgrade tasks that you must
do, depending on functional product (like Financial, HRMS, SCM etc)
customer has implemented.

3. Create Staging Area: Once you have understanding of Upgrade Path to

Oracle Apps R12.2, next task is to creating staging area for Oracle EBusiness Suite R12.2
Creating staging area is process of downloading and preparing installation
file so that 12.2 software can be installed before old version can be
upgraded to this new file system.
You must download required software from Oracle E-Delivery Portal to your
stage directory, and create staging area using script buildStage.sh

4. Upgrade Database before EBS 12.2 Upgrade: Oracle E-Business Suite

has Application Tier and Database Tier. Before you upgrade EBS from
older version to EBS 12.2.x version, ensure that database of old EBS is
compatible with EBS 12.2.x version you are upgrading like 12.2.4/12.2.5

This document covers upgrade path depending on Oracle E-Business Suite
version and target database version you need, like version 11.2.0.4 or
12.1.0.2
This document talks about 3 upgrade paths for database.

version to 11gR2 (11.2.0.4) on your dedicated machine.
5. ETCC - EBS Technology Codelevel Checker, Consolidated list of Apps
& DB patches before EBS 12.2 Upgrade: Oracle E-Business Suite has
Application Tier and Database Tier. After upgrading database to certified
version with EBS 12.2, and before you upgrade EBS from older version to
EBS 12.2.x version, ensure that all the required technology stack patches
on source environment are applied.

This document talks about two ETCC scripts, one for application tier and
second for database tier. Script names are checkDBpatch.sh &
checkMTpatch.sh
Output of these two scripts will provide list of patches that you must apply
on both tiers on source environment to make E-Business Suite environment
ready for Upgrade.

for practice, you will configure Autoconfig on database tier and run
ETCC scripts to get list of all the patches and apply all these patches .

6. Install 12.2 Files System for Upgrade: Next using stage area you created
earlier, you install Oracle EBS 12.2 file system for Upgrade.
Follow steps mentioned in EBS 12.2 Installation Guide at

#3804699 using Rapid Wizard and select Upgrade option.

You then select Upgrade File System Option.

7. Enable Online Patching (ADOP): Online Patching (ADOP) is new feature

introduced in Oracle E-Business Suite version R12.2. Next you enable
Online Patching so ADPATCH utility after this stage will move to ADOP.

Readiness Report in Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2
This document covers script for Online Patching readiness report that tells
what all pre-requisite that must be fulfilled for enabling ADOP. Scripts
mentioned in this document also covers, custom code check that must be
changed to support Edition Bases Redefinition (EBR), database feature
that ADOP uses to support Online Patching.

8. Run 12.2.x Upgrade Driver (ADOP) to bring to latest 12.2.4 or 12.2.5:
There is no direct upgrade to 12.2.4 or 12.2.5 version. You must first
upgrade to 12.2.0, enable Online Patching (ADOP) and then apply latest
12.2.4 (17919161) or 12.2.5 (19676458) bundle patch. Go through
README of respective patch,
