Our SCP series RS-232 to RS-422/485 serial converters are compact
and tough. Each model is designed and tested to meet heavy industrial
EMC standards. The RS-232 signal is connected through a female DB9
connector. The RS-422/485 (2-Wire and 4-Wire) signal is connected
through a removable terminal block, making wiring easy. Power is
connected through a two position removable terminal block. Our bitwise enabled circuitry automatically detects the character time-out
eliminating the need to set DIP Switches for the baud rate.

Model SCP311T-DFTB3 offers 2 kV Isolation and will stand up to -40
to 80C temperature variations. This is our most rugged model in this

Simply put, all RS-232 ports are not created equal. Many
laptop PCs for example, deliberately reduce power to
the RS-232 port to save the battery. Our port-powered
converters are designed to squeeze every milliwatt out
of your RS-232 port, but if you are are working at the
distance limits of RS-422 or 485, you might need an extra
boost. For the majority of applications though, port power
is all our efficient converters need to get the job done. We
just want to be sure that youre covered, no matter what.

Why Automatic Send Data control makes serial

conversion easier
As operating systems become more complex, it is
increasingly difficult to control an RS-485 driver with
standard software and the RTS line. This is especially true
in Windows and multi-tasking operating systems. With
B&Bs Automatic Send Data Control circuit, driver control is
in the converter hardware, so you dont have to work with
software at all. The circuit monitors data flow and enables
the driver during transmission and automatically disables
it when no data is being sent. There is no need to rework
software or install new drivers. Most B&B Electronics
RS-232 to RS-485 converters and RS-485 serial cards
include Automatic Send Data Control.

Isolation zones explained
Isolated serial card design requires attention to three things:
#1. Special optocouplers isolate the serial signals from the PCI bus.
#2. Isolated DC-to-DC power supply provides power to each of the
ports and port-to-port isolation.
#3. The circuit board uses strict spacing rules we call these
isolation zones.
Surges follow the path of least resistance, and a tiny gap between circuit board traces
is an easy path for surges to reach the delicate computer bus, bypassing expensive
isolation components entirely. Youll find wide isolation zones on B&B Electronics
3PCI series of isolated universal PCI cards. If youre buying boards from someone else,
hold them up to the light and check the isolation zones, you might not be getting the
protection that youre paying for - and need.

Locked Serial Numbers Explained

We configure our single-port USB to serial converters in two ways. In standard format,
each product has a unique serial number. Locked serial format uses the same serial
number that is associated with a model type.
If your converter will always be used with the same computer, the standard serialized
model is all you need. If the converter is shared among several computers, like field
service laptops, the locked serial number model lets you plug and play without having
to worry about matching the two.

Power-over-Ethernet is just what it says.

Power is transmitted over Ethernet cable along with the data
lines. Each PoE switch has power source equipment (PSE)
ports that can power PoE compliant powered devices (PD).
New applications are possible with ease of setup, reduced
installation cost, and the ability to power remote end devices
without running separate power lines.
Common Ethernet devices that a PoE switch may be able to
power are: Access Points, IP Cameras, Serial Servers, and
Ethernet I/O. The PoE ports follow Alternative A standards and
are limited to 15.4 or 25 Watts of power output per port.

Advantechs ADAM-6100 series is a line of Industrial

Ethernet Remote I/O modules designed with the EtherNet/IP
protocol. Data transfer is accomplished significantly faster
during process control and other industrial automation
applications. Designed with 2,500 VDC isolation, these
modules are very resistant to field interference. Daisy chain
connectivity is also a new feature and provides a more
scalable system with fewer wires to help avoid interference
common in factory settings. Flexible mounting options
include DIN rail, wall mount and piggyback. The bundled
ADAM.NET Utility is included with each ADAM-6100 module,
allowing users to configure, set and test modules through
Ethernet.
The Advantech ADAM-6000 series modules are compact,
versatile sensor-to-computer interface units designed
specifically for harsh environments. Leverage the ease of
the internet to Integrate factory automation data acquisition
and control functions with enterprise systems for an
intelligent Ethernet I/O data processing center. MODBUS/
TCP compatibility makes it easy for users to develop various
applications over Ethernet.
