According to World Health Organization (WHO) ,"occupational health deals with all
aspects of health and safety in the workplace and has a strong focus on primary
prevention of hazards." meanwhile, the meaning of health has been defined as "a state of
complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or
infirmity." Occupational health is a multidisciplinary field of healthcare concerned with
enabling an individual to undertake their occupation, in the way that causes least harm to
their health. Health has been defined as It contrasts, for example, with the promotion of
health and safety at work, which is concerned with preventing harm from any incidental
hazards, arising in the workplace.
The organisation that suitable for the management of the health and occupational
safety of the worker is safety and health committee in a work place. A safety and health
committee must promote the development of safety and health programs in a work place
for the banefit of the all workers. The objective of the safety and health committee are to
reduce the number of injuries and illnesses in the workplace among the
workers.Furthermore, this organisation also improve the workers moral value and the
productivity and quality work for the company. This is important to promote the good and
safe environment at the works place.
The objective of the OSH management are to ensure that all the company has a
duty to give direction and commitment for safety and health toward all their employees.
Furthermore, all the company also has duty to explain all the procedure and policies for
all employees and other interested parties regarding the safety of them. The company also
have duty of care to clarified all misunderstanding and misconceptions related to specific
safety and health activity or issues. The company also need to encourage the practice of
safety and health at the workplace because it is part of the objectives for performance
measurement. Furthermore,there are written safety and health rules and procedures for
everyone to follow. The example of the written safety and health rules is Occupational
Safety and Health Act (OSHA). That all activities have been integrated with safety and

health requirements and proper communication tools are established for safety and health
communication.
There are many law that secure the right of the workers to have a safe work place.
The employer has responsible to make sure all their workers are safe during work. One of
the law that govern this subject matter is Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA).
For example, in the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA). This act stated that the
employers are responsible to investigate and report any accidents and injuries that occurs
in their premises and workplaces such as workshop. This show that safety and health
committee play the important role to make sure all the employees know their right of
their safety. This committee also need to give the awareness and the training to the
employees about how to make sure their work place was safe and good condition. From
this program, the employee will more careful at the work place.
Through this committee, the employer will become more responsible to their
employee. They not only care about their profit only but also their employees. For
example, under Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) has stated that all the
employee must furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment
which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or
serious physical harm to his employees. This section highlight the duty of the employer
toward their employee.
Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), the employer also has
responsible to pay any damages that suffer by the employee due to any negligence and
accident that occurs at the work place. That show that the employer has a huge burden
and duty of care to make sure their work place in a good condition and not dangerous.
The employer also must be responsible to the all medical bill that incur from the accident.
It is not fair to let the employee to pay the medical bill because the employer that breach
the duty of care toward them. The relevancy of this principle is to secure the safety of the
workers and to impose the responsible value toward the employer.

The example case is Mersey Docks and Harbour Board v Coggins & Griffith
( Liverpool) Ltd. In this case, a worker was injured by a negligently driven crane. The
crane and Boards driver were hired out to steverdores for loading work. The stevedores
controlled the cranes operations, but not direct how the driver controlled the crane. The
employer in this case is the Board. The issue in this case is whether the employer should
be liable and responsible toward that accident. The court held that the Board, as the crane
drivers general employer, retained responsible for the negligence. The relevancy of this
judgment is the employer should give good and complete training to their employee to
use the heavy machine and make sure they know how to handle it with care.From this
case, we can conclude that the employer who fail to give awareness toward their own
employees regarding to safety at the work place, must pay all the damages that suffer by
the employees due that breach of duty.
The other example is in the case of Imperial Chemical Industries Ltd v Shatwell. In
this case, the court also state that the employer must pay the damages that suffer by the
employees due to the lack safety at the work place. The court give the protection toward
the employees safety.
The implementation of the OHS in the organisation is important to reduces the
accident that occurs in the work place. This implementation rules also can help company
from suffer lost due to the property damages because of the accident. For example, as we
know, if there is any accident happen, not only human will injured but the machine and
others property also destroy such as crane. The OHS give benefit to the organisation
because it can reduces the companys insurance premium since the number of accident
that occurs in the workplace reduce.
The OSH also reduces the indirect costs of accidents and it also prevents the potential
negative impact on the companys image or reputation. As we know, the dangerous and
not safety workplace will portray bad image to the company. It show that the company
was not responsible to their workers and only focus on their profits. It also show that the
company produces not quality products since the workers also not get good treatment

from the company.


The OHS also play the important role toward the organisation since it can help the
company to prevent and reduce the number of physiological effects on employees due to
accidents. For example, if the employee involve in the accident at the workplace because
the floor was slippery. Due to the accident, the victim was badly injured and broke his
leg. The injured that suffered by the victim obviously will give physiological effects
toward the victim. The victim might be feel pressure because he must stop work for a
while because of that accident and he must burden his family to take care of him. This
incident obviously not good to the employees.
The OHS also play important role to reduces long term or permanent disability
cases. As we know there are many serious accident occurs at the workplace. Sometime,
the victim of the incident might become disable either for a long term or permanent. For
example, some people might be lost their part of body such as leg, hand and eyes because
not use the heavy machine with care. This is very serious situation that must be burden
the victim. The victim might be lost their works and obviously it is unfair toward the
workers. If they become disable, how about their future and how about their family. The
OHS must be very important to make sure the employees not involve in any accident at
the workplace. The OHS also must provide clear guideline and procedure toward the
employees how to handle the heavy machine. The proper rules must be imposed toward
all the employees to make sure all the work done in safe condition.
The OHS also improve the employee morale and loyalty toward the company. It is
relevance since the company has provide the safe environment for the employee. The
employee must give good service toward the company and will always give the quality
works. The positive vibes from this situation will give a lot of benefit toward employer
and employee. The employee obviously will always loyal toward the company and will
never make the employer feel dispointed with their performance in works.
