Indonesians Protest over Miss World Contest
The article is about Muslim who disagreed with Miss World Contest which was held in
Bali. I think the reason why they disagreed because Miss World Contest is known as beauty
contest which show bikini contest which is against Indonesian culture and Muslim rules.
In the article mentioned that Hary Tanoesoedibjo, head of MNC, assure that there will be
nothing against Indonesian culture. Also the chair of the Miss World Organization, Julia Morley,
had earlier confirmed that none of the contestants would wear a bikini.
When Miss World Contest was held on 28 September 2013 at Bali Nusa Dua Convention
Center Bali, there were many advantages for Indonesia. At the time, 127 contestants from all
over the world competed for the crown making the biggest turnout in the pageants history. It
mean that at least 126 countries watch it out and see how beautiful Indonesia. Indonesia can be
promoted through the contest.
The pride of nationalism is contestant from Indonesia, Vania Larissa be blessed with Miss
World Talent 2013 because of showing her talent on singing. She sang A Question of Honour
with seriosa. It brought her the top 6. It was the great achievement for Indonesia. Besides that,
Echa Paramitha, the singer of Opera Van Java participated in this international event. She sang
three Indonesian traditional music. She made known one of Indonesian culture to the world.
Even though there were many pros and cons, the international event, the 63rd Miss World
Contest success being held in Indonesia. An article in merdeka.com, February 16th, 2015
mentioned that Liliana Tanoesudibjo and Julia Morley confirmed that Indonesia will be the
Master of Miss World 2016. But because of some reason this year Miss World Contest will be
held on December 18th, 2016 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, National
Harbor in Maryland, United States, just south of Washington, DC.
Indonesia must be open minded through the event. In my opinion, before an international
event held in a country, the organizer will plan it well and adapt with the culture in the chosen
country.

Why Own a 4WD

The text is a persuasive text which is persuade the reader to have a 4WD. 4WD (four
wheel-drive) or 4x4 (four by four) is a form of drivetrain capable of providing power to all wheel
ends of a two-axles vehicle simultaneously. It may be full-time or on-demand and is typically
linked via a transfer case which provides an additional output drive-shaft, along with additional
gear ranger.
The writer mentions several reason why everybody should own a four-wheel drive. If you
own a 4WD, you pay less tax; you can see further down the road; but those behind you cant see
ahead at all; you can feel you are really someone when you are above everybody else; if you
crash into an ordinary car, you are less likely to be hurt; you can pretend that you are actually
going somewhere on weekends when youre just going to the shops; you can show despise
greenies and energy-conserves, by using twice as much fuel as they do; although there are no
bulls or roos in the area, you can have a grate attached to the front of your Urban Assault Vehicle
for protection against pedestrians; everyone knows they cost a lot; and if you deserve over
someone, you wont notice.
Four-wheel drives are more efficient than ever, and hybrid technology can mean some
large cars with all-wheel traction have modest company car tax bills. The Outlander has
revolutionized Mitsubishi in the UK as well as making plug-in hybrids mainstream. It operates in
four-wheel drive in electric mode and qualifies for the 5,000 plug-in car grant, but its P11D is
based on the full price. However, with CO 2 emissions of 44 g/km, the car currently qualifies for
BIK tax at 5% making it the four-wheel drive car with the lowest BIK tax liability.
Another reasons which is mentioned by the writer are do not matter. You can get the same
thing if you bought another luxurious vehicle that is more expansive. The writer do not mention
the disadvantages of having a four-wheel drive clearly and do not mention the features such as
there is a part-time system on four-wheel drive.
I think if the text just mention the superiority of product without compare with another
product do not make a sense for the reader. Because the reader will be consider more if there is
no other product which is compare with. Also he does not explain what four-wheel drive is,
because not everybody knowing about four-wheel drive.

Jihad, Pesantren and Terrorist Encounters

Terrorism is the use of intentionally indiscriminate violence (terror) in order to achieve a
political, religious, or ideological aim. In modern times, terrorism is considered a major threat to
society and therefore illegal under anti-terrorism laws in most jurisdictions. It is also considered
a war crime under the laws of war when used to target non-combatants, such as civilians, neutral
military personnel, or enemy prisoners of wars.
Islam never teach that thing. It is true if Islam is ordered to jihad, but it is not related with
terrorism at all. Jihad is a religious duty of Muslims to maintain and spread the religion. In
Arabic word jihad meaning is the act of striving, applying oneself, struggling, persevering. NonMuslims always judge that jihad in Islam is referring to violent and harsh. Whereas Islam is a
religion that is full of tolerance.
Indeed Islam used to applied jihad with battle. It was caused by human behaves used to
were combating. Who wins would be the ruler of others. But in this modern era, jihad is not like
that anymore. Nowadays, Muslims apply jihad to keep Islam, ask people to the right ways as
mentioned in surah Al-Fatihah.
Husband who works for fund his family could be called jihad. Even woman who give a
birth and die is jihad, too. Ustadz who teaches Muslims the Islamic knowledge and Muslims who
learn are jihad. So Jihad is not always something like combat and against non-Muslims.
If Islam related to terrorism, it is wrong. Terrorist who names their selves as mujahidin,
they are crazy. They are just the trifling people who is fanatic with Islam and do not understand
Al-Quran and Al-Hadist in the right way. They have their own way in interpreting Al-Quran and
Al-Hadist. So, non-Muslims cannot judge the whole Muslims is terrorist.

Tinja dalam Sastra

Literature is the place for a man of letter to express himself. Literature does not have any
rules in it. Even the words that is used in the labors. Such as using tinja which is disgusting in
connotation meaning. Called connotation meaning because of denotation meaning of tinja is
something useful. Tinja can fertile the ground and be feed for fish. Also tinja is a part of
ecological process.
This is interesting anyway. When everyone feels so disgusting and make it taboo, man of
letters using tinja in their labor. I pretend that tinja cannot describe anything else except
something disgusting. But Seno Gumira gaves evidence that tinja can describe something
unexpected things.
Hamsad, used tinja in his short stories. In Pispot (1982), told about a man accused stolen
a necklace and choking down the necklace. Three times he is mud, the necklace does not find by
police. Then police setting free the man. In the end of story, the man admit that he is choking
down the necklace when hes mud. Hamsad is describing that people can be so miserable in
Orde Baru that is proud by everyone. I like this statement Kemiskinan telah menenggelamkan
manusia ke dalam lautan tinja.
In another way, Hamsad describes tinja as a weapon to fight the ruler. The character in
story, Sukri is feeling satisfied when he can serve fish which fed by poor people. Thus tinja is not
something disgusting anymore. Tinja can be the spirit of fight of poor people who is misery
caused by officials greediness.
Sutrdji Calzoum Bachri in the story Tahi (1966) made tinja that is disgusting and
excrement, can be fried rice in hand of God. In the simple words, tinja which is interpreted as
poorness can be interpreted as the greatness of God.
Three cases in the different stories can open our eyes and keep away the mindset of tinja
as the disgusting thing. Tinja is not something taboo anymore. Why are we feeling taboo when
talking about tinja but do not matter when talking about sex? Thus two things is used to be
taboo. Nowadays, everything we called taboo is usual to talk.

Addiction to Selfies: A Mental Disorder?

According to the text written by Michael Woronko, the American Psychiatric Association
and countless others, who are igniting a global movement to recognize that an addiction to selfies
can be indicative of a mental disorder.
A mental disorder, also called a mental illness or psychiatric disorder is a diagnosis by a
mental health professional of a behavioral or mental pattern that may cause suffering or a poor
ability to function in life. Mental disorder are usually defined by a combination of how a person
behaves, feels, perceives, or think.
I agree with the statement, because of some reasons which relates with the behavior of
selfietis. Someone who addicts to selfies can take many time to get the perfect one. Take an
example from the article, the story of Daniel Bowman, a 19-year-old British teen who
exemplifies the worst case scenario of a selfie addiction living proof that a new vice may
currently be emerging. He is snapping over 200 photos a day, he didnt leave his house for six
months, during which time he lost 30 pounds and dropped out of school. What a tragic, because
of selfie someone lost his weight and dropped out of school.
Another reason is the selfietis will take a selfie where ever they are. In restaurant, school,
home, shop, toilet, mountain, and other places even the place is not beautiful. I think it does not
matter. But how if they were taking photos beside their parent corpse and upload it into social
media like instagram, twitter, facebook, snapchat or anything else? It is so disgusting. It really
happened to my friends friend. When her mother passed away, she snapped herself smiling with
her mother corpse and upload it into line with the long caption. It is not proper, even if you just
taken the corpses photos.
The annoying one is when they are taking selfies, they do not notice situation around
them. Indeed they do not care anything behind. I often find that type of selfietis. When they were
taking photos, they just cared their poses and ignored me behind them. I did not matter with their
activities at all, but it was annoying. So I have to move away from them.
From several reason above, I think addiction to selfies is a mental disorder. I myself
rarely taking selfie. Even my friends around take selfies, I never join them. I think taking selfies
in public place is shameful. Even if I wanted to do it, I just take once and rarely upload it into my
social media.

Selfies Can Harm You, According To Researchers

Related to the article written by Michael Woronko about addiction to selfie is a mental
disorder, Michael Daws write the effect of taking selfies. The selfietis who is the perfectionist
one will take selfie anywhere even the extreme place such as mountain side, high building, and
other extreme places.
Besides the cases of who given by Daws in his article about the deaths caused by taking
selfie in a ridiculous way, I have another cases from several sources. This is the list of serious
injuries and deaths in which the victim or a member of their group (for group selfies) took a
selfie, or was preparing to do so, and any deaths or injuries sustained were at least in part
attributed to this activity for any reason.
-

The Telegraph, citing Mashable wrote that in 2015 more people were killed taking
selfies than by shark attacks.
The United States Department of Transportation estimated that during 2014, the year
of selfie, 33,000 people were injured while driving and using a cell-phone in some
fashion, which can include talking, listening, and manual button/control actuation
including taking, uploading, downloading, editing, or opening of selfies. A survey by
Erie Insurance Group found 4% of all drivers admit to taking selfies while driving.
The Washington Post reported January 2016 that reports show about half of at least
27 selfietis death in 2015 occurred in India.
A German tourist fell to his death after posing for a jumping photo at restricted area
of Machu Picchu ruins in Peru. Just a day prior, another tourist also died from
attempting a self-portrait atop the Gocta waterfall in same country.

From several cases about can be concluded that selfies may not be an official cause of
death in a formal sense, but these new incidents add to a growing number of fatalities attributed
to risky selfies. According to research by Priceonomics, the most common cause of selfie-related
deaths is falling from heights, followed by drowning. The average age of selfie death victims is
21 years-old with 75 percent from reported cases skewing toward male victims. Priceonomics
cites that men are more likely to take recreational risks despite women taking more selfies in
general.
We can see that many people death caused by their obsession to take the perfect photos.
To get more likes on instagram, facebook, or twitter. As if we did not already have a big enough
problem with the way internet addiction affects our mental health. Lets not let selfies be another
one of our many rech-related stresses,
