Teaching Strategy: Direct Instruction
Academic Language:
Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of football-including a dynamic warm up (a modified
version of the NFL), as well as training. This includes the development of team building skills, as well as
developing concepts in sportsmanship and fundamental training.
Student Objectives:
1. To understand the importance of warming up prior to participating in sports.
2. To understand and execute the cues of the skill of throwing a football.
3. Students will recite to me the cues of the skill of how to throw a football.

Psychomotor (P): Students will be able to perform the cues of the skill of throwing a football to a partner.
Cognitive (C): Students will be able to recite to myself and another classmate the cues of the skills for
throwing a football and the importance of stretching prior to activity.

H-R Fitness (H): Students will be able to reach at least 50% MVPA in duration of the class, going towards
the recommended amount of physical activity a week.

Welcome to NFL boot camp! Can anyone tell me what NFL stands for ? The National Football League,
good! Today, we are going to begin with some basic skills that you need for the sport, including throwing
the football. Whos ready?
Purpose:
Students will develop the understanding in how to correctly throw a football to a target.
Start/Stop Signals: Hand up in the air to count down (this makes students put hands up and have
eyes on me by the time I count down to one).
Grouping Strategies: Random.

Transition:
Students will pair up and get into groups next to hula hoops and their own pile of bean bags.

Lesson Core - Task 1: 10 Minutes: Football Throwing


Students are partnered up while standing on their polyspots facing one another. The goal of this exercise is
to develop their throwing skills, while changing factors such as distance. Students will be asked to shift the
distance by moving their polyspot back 3, 5, and 10 steps.
Demonstration Plan:
Myself throwing to my ET, then a student reciting how to do so.

2. Students throwing the ball when I have instructed them not to.

Lesson Core - Task 2: 4 Minutes: Be A Quarterback


Name one position you know of in football. To be a quarterback, you have to be able to throw the ball to
someone down the field to score a touchdown. To finish off, I want one line receiving, one line throwing,
and I will be tossing the ball to the individual throwing. Make sense? Ill split you up!
