Woolwich CC Go-Ride is Woolwich Cycling Clubs own Go-Ride coaching squad for junior riders, aged
between 8 & 16. Members are divided into four groups depending on their ability, confidence &
maturity.
The group form the foundation to the Woolwich Go-Ride Awards Scheme. Members progress
through the awards scheme with the aim that they get the most out of their cycling both socially and
competitively.
Go-Ride is the base of the British Cycling Performance Pyramid. The Award Scheme is designed to
give capable committed riders a pathway to the next level in the British cycling Performance Pyramid
if they so desire.
Woolwich CC
Group B Coaching utilises British Cycling's Gears 1, 2, 3 & 4. Gears 3 & 4 coaching guides further
develops the Gears 1 & 2 core cycling & bike handling techniques & adds the concepts of: sprint
cycling; endurance cycling; riding cooperatively in a group; competitive group riding.
So B riders are skilled at the Gear 1 & 2 techniques (do them without thinking) & actively learning &
applying Gears 3 & 4 concepts & techniques. Again as they participate more & apply the techniques
regularly they begin to get skilful at the Gears 3 & 4 concepts & techniques applying them
automatically when needed. They also have the opportunity to be introduced to & participate in
discipline specific coaching events the club has access to.

Award
The last two awards are the Rainbow Award, for inspiring racing members & the Volunteer Award
for the aspiring coaching members.
Rainbow Award
This award gives understanding & experience in several cycling disciplines. An insight in looking after
themselves as well as their equipment. Its objective is to provide riders with a glimpse in to the next
level of the British Cycling Performance Pyramid, Regional Schools of Racing, which if they have the
ability & desire they can progress on to.
Volunteer Award
The Volunteer award is to recognise members who want to help maintain Woolwich CC Go-Ride, so
that coaching is there for the next generation of young aspiring cyclists.
