ESBeamTool3 is Eclipse Scientifics third generation modeling and technique development tool for Phased

Array, TOFD and Conventional ultrasonic inspection.

The acquisition of good data starts with a plan and ESBeamTool3 makes it easy to model, validate and document your
plan.
ESBeamTool has evolved quickly over the years based on user feedback. Version 3 introduces many enhancements
requested by users from around the world. Below are some of the top enhancements available in ESBeamTool3.
Focusing
As part of technique visualization, ESBeamTool3 can display focusing parameters for
phased array beamsets. Focus locations are overlaid over beamset beams to make it
easy to see where focus is required with the subject piece. True Depth, Projection and
Half Path focus types can be visualized in your workspace and documented in your
technique report.
The location and size of the A gate can also be described and visualized with the
workspace. Gate location and size is overlaid over beamset beams and documented on
the technique report.

Phased Array Beamspread and NearField Visualization

New options for phased array beamsets allow you to visualize estimations of
beamspread and nearfield within a piece. Beamspread visualization allows you to more
accurately see the coverage your beamset has for a specific dB drop and nearfield
visualization allows you to ensure that any focusing being performed is within the
nearfield.

IDOD Pieces
Users can now create techniques using pieces with curved geometries. Version 3 adds
native support for ID/OD type pieces common in pipelines and boilers. The piece editor
allows the piece to be easily defined using the OD and ID or thickness of a part. Once
the part is configured, phased array and conventional probes can be pinned to the
outside or inside of the part. As the user adjusts the probe location, the probe stays
pinned to the part and revolves around it. The lensing effect of the curved surface can
be seen in the reflection displayed in the screenshot to the right.

Undo / Redo
In previous versions of ESBeamTool users could not undo or redo multiple operations
within a workspace as the interactive nature of ESBeamTool made this difficult to
implement. The new multi-level undo and redo support will make it much easier for
users to change their minds while designing a technique.

Probe Positioning
Phased array and conventional probes are no longer constrained to being placed on a
base line for custom pieces. In addition to being able to define the probe location index
offset, the elevation and angle of the probe can also be set. This allows the probe to be
positioned on a complex geometry without having to reorient the geometry.

Linear Spread Beamset

A new type of beamset called a linear spread beamset has been introduced for
conceptual visualization. A linear spread beamset is a hybrid of linear and sectorial
beamsets. This new beamset has all of the abilities of a linear beamset with the added
ability of a sectorial beamset to specify a min and max angle.

Element Usage Visualization

When configuring beamsets in ESBeamTool3, the parameters dialog displays a visual
representation of the transducer elements that are used to form the beamset.
Rulers and Crosshairs
Users can enable the display of rulers and crosshairs within the drawing area of the
application workspace. Rulers make it easy to quickly draw to specific dimensions and
crosshairs make it easy to parallel other geometries in the drawing.

Report Template Editor

ESBeamTool3 includes a built-in report template editor. Users can easily customize or
create new reports containing the information they need. The built-in HTML editor
allows reports to be constructed in an environment similar to a common word
processor. Workspace fields can be dragged from a field picker into the template for
inclusion in the report.

CAD Functionality
ESBeamTool3's CAD tools have been expanded greatly, making it easier, faster and more precise for drawing and
documenting piece geometry.

Some of the new CAD functionality includes:

Precision placement and sizing of geometries. Users can key in the location and size of selected geometries relative to points
within the geometry.

Draw constraints allow the user to constrain the creation of their geometry to specific distances and angles.
Additional snap options have been added to allow the user to snap to the grid, points on other geometries or orthographically
to constrain angles.
Relative draw allows users to key in distances and angles for lines to be created at.
The visual attribute editor allows the user to easily control now their piece geometries appear without needing to open
additional dialog boxes. All of the common visual properties like color, weight, style, end caps and fill are available from the
new Style tool group.
