Christie slams
Guadagno over
gas tax talk
DUSTIN RACIOPPI @DRACIOPPI

Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno joined the Republican revolt

against Gov. Chris Christie and the gas tax he signed
into law by urging voters to defeat a ballot question that
seeks a constitutional safeguard for the money raised
by that increase, the largest in state history.
Guadagno has expressed her disapproval of the 23cents-a-gallon increase before, but her lobbying
against that related ballot question on Thursday drew a
rare public criticism from Christie, a deeply unpopular
governor whose lieutenant is expected to be preparing
her own run for governor next year. But Guadagnos latest objection is one of several lawmakers are trying to
raise in a complicated and decidedly uphill battle to
keep New Jerseys gasoline prices among the lowest in
the nation.
Next months ballot includes a question - known as
Public Question No. 2 asking voters whether the state
should constitutionally dedicate gas tax money to the
Transportation Trust Fund that supports road and rail
projects. Money was regularly diverted from the fund
for years. This summer it ran out of money as Christie

BRICK - For hours that day, Michelle Silverman

couldnt shake the feeling that she should stay home
from work. It was unusual, but the feeling and the
voice was insistent.
It went through my head, You need to be home.
You need to be home, Michelle said.
Her husband, Gene, 69, has Parkinsons disease,
which causes near-constant neck pain and challenges
his ability to move. He often spends afternoons
tipped back in his cherished and well-worn recliner,
joined by his dog, Charlie.
Michelle said she normally wouldnt have considered taking off from work. Since Genes diagnosis six
years ago, Michelle, 57, has supported the household
by working multiple jobs, every day, from morning to
evening.
But on Sept. 24, the feeling wouldnt leave.
It lifted a little when she called out from work. But
when she thought about joining Gene and resting at
home, that didnt feel quite right, either.

Trump stirs up suppression memories

ERIK LARSEN JERSEY ROOTS
Donald Trump, with his dire and incessant warnings of a rigged election,
voter fraud, and recruitment of volunteer election observers, is taking the
nation down memory lane to a tightly contested New Jersey vote three
decades ago.
A new lawsuit by the Democratic
National Committee drives home the

NEPTUNE - Less than 24 hours after the Asbury

Park Press reported on the dozens of videos of Neptune
High School students bare-knuckle fighting each other
inside and outside of school, public reaction to the
videos was swift and angry.
She (my daughter) would come home telling how
many fights there were. Even parents fighting. This
has been going on forever. Now its important, said
Facebook user Lisa Buck, who said she had a daughter
who graduated from the high school in June.
The videos originated from a now-suspended Twitter account created in September. It uploaded 23
videos, all of which showed numerous students punching, slapping, kicking and dragging each other by the
hair. Neptune Schools Superintendent Tami Crader
said Wednesday all of the videos recorded on school
property were from 2015. She said she could not date
the videos outside of school property.
Fighting in and around school will be addressed
swiftly and seriously, Crader said on Wednesday
morning.

The complaint filed Wednesday charges that the
Republican National Committee violated a 1982 consent decree entered in federal court in the Garden
State by supporting and enabling Trump to intimidate and discourage minority voters from voting in
the 2016 Presidential Election.
