The next academic year starts the new K-12 curriculum implemented by the

Aquino administration. As the administration says that we are ready because

this has been planned for years and has been consulted by experts (1), the
question is, are we ready for this globalization for education?
I am in favor for the globalization for education but there are still so many
problems and issues to be resolved. Let us tackle them one by one.
Number one is the lack of classrooms and materials. One my experiences in
my local district school is that, in one classroom, there are up to 50 students
in one classroom. Most of them do not even listen to the teachers. Books are
also lacking and some use materials that are defective and books with torn
pages. Also, facilities are very lacking and not well maintained.
Next is the old-fashion ranking system of the teachers. One of my uncles
left for the ranking of being a public school teacher because of political and
high-official recommendations. You are the first one in ranking and then,
after a week or two, the last one in the list was taken for the job. Is this even
fair to all those teachers getting a slot for public teaching?
Next is the teachers performance. The teacher receives a performancebased bonus, then she has the most absences in school. I have experienced
this while teaching catechism is my local district school. The pupils said that
their teacher was not around for quite some time for an unknown reason.
The pupils do not deserve this kind of teachers.
Lastly, the implementation and budget allocation of the Department of
Education (DepEd) in their curriculum. This year, DepEd received an
allocation of Php 411.905 billion. It has received one of the highest
allocation in the 2016 national budget (2). My only concern is, will this
money be used wisely for the new curriculum?
I am for globalization for education. But I think, PNoy is being so fast in
implementing the K-12 curriculum. We can be ready if only the issues I have
stated above have been resolved first with short-term and long-term plans of
the Aquino administration.
I believe that if we have competent teachers to teach children with the right
education, we can have professional workers now working locally and
globally. I believe that if we have more classrooms and materials to work
with, children will have the interest to go to school everyday. I believe that if
the Aquino administration first resolved the problems stated above, we can
be ready for the transition of the new curriculum.

Yes, we can be ready. If the K-12 is properly implemented, we will be

competent in blue collar jobs. And if the child still has the interest to continue
to tertiary level, he/she will be competent in terms of professional work.
Yes, I am for globalization as long as the we, the people, and the
administration cooperate in implementing the new curriculum.
