Summary
We propose to design an automatic water pump with LDR for use in houses.
This system will consist of LDR that will implant in the water pump circuit as the
water level detector. The design of this automatic water pump circuit would be the
primary of this project. This project can be completed in 6 weeks for a low cost Rp
570.000,-.

Background
Water is really important in our live. Generally, every home have their own
water sources, for using water we need a water pump. Currently, the water pump is
100% controlled by human. The impact of this problem is human should be near with
the water pump machine to control the ON/OFF power, so that activity of human have
disturbance.
In order to provide the technology of water pump, we had designing a
miniaturization of automatic water pump. The machine is going to work in a specific
water level. This technology is using a LDR sensor (TEDC,1998). Light Dependent
Resistor is a kind of resistor that the resistance is changeable in light intensity. When
it is dark, the resistance is high and low when the light intensity is high. When we
implemented the automatic circuit with manual water pump, the water pump machine
stopped when the water level is 90% and work again when the water level is 20%. As
shown in Fig.1 , our design consisted of five components: water control, switching
transistor, devider voltage and load(Otto,1650).

Figure 1. Diagram Block of Automatic Water Pump with LDR.

Problem
LDR is a sensor that use for water level detector. The principle of LDR is the
reactance will change if the light intensity. Because of that, the intensity light should
be high when the water level is low to active machine and should be low when the
water level is high to stop machine. The intensity is one of the primary components in
this project, so the place of sensor should be really well, for the efficient work.

Objectives
The primary objectives of this project are:
1. To design an automatic water pump with LDR, consisting of the following
components:
a. Water control
b. Switching transistor
c. Devider voltage
d. Comparator
e. Load
2. To create a report detailing the research and design process in addition to the
result of the automatic water pump circuit.

Scope
This project will only focus on designing an automatic water pump circuits
and creating a report on the design. It will not include constructing or testing of the
system due to time constraints. Theses phase will take place during the following
semester.

Methods
In order to accomplish the objectives of designing an automatic water pump
and reporting on the design, we will follow a research and design procedure. The
following steps outline this procedure.
1. Designing an automatic water pump with LDR will consist of researching each
component in the circuit to determine its exact functionally. We will use
Compendex and Technology Index as tools to perform this research. Following
this research will be additional research to determine whether to implement each
part of the design with an off-the-shelf component or to design the component for
this specific circuit.
2. Creating the project report will consist of detailing the function of each
component in the automatic water pump as well as each type of component
chosen for this design.

Credential
Currently we are the students Of Electronic Telecommunication Engineering
at Politeknik Caltex Riau. We have completed several courses that related to this
project including: Automatic Circuit and Amplifier Circuit. Knowledge gained from
these courses will be very valuable in designing this circuit. For this course we will
work as part of a team.

Results
Based on the project proposal that proposed by us, we were success design
Automatic Pump with LD. The Pump worked in water level 20% On and 90% Off, If
the water level 20% So the water pump will On with the automatic and when the water level
has reached 90%, the water pump will shut off automatically.

Figure 2. Schema Of Automatic Water Pump.

Conclusion
Most of people are using water pump in their home, user sometimes it is hard
to control the water pump by themselves. By LDR as the detector of water level, the
automatic water pump will control by the light intensity, so it will really help people.
Considering these great potential benefits, we strongly encourage you to fund this
project.

Recommendation
For people who want to develop this project, we suggest:
1. Try To Make Better Sensitivity.
2. Try to find another detector.
3. Give priority on designing the circuit.
