Conclusion

THE IMPORTANCE OF TERTIARY EDUCATION TO

STUDENTS OF MALACCA MATRICULATION COLLEGE
Based on our findings, we can conclude that most
students in Malacca Matriculation College agree that
tertiary education is indeed important to them. A greater
percentage of 32.5% of the science students and 17.5% of
the accounting students think that by pursuing tertiary
education, it could secure them a good career in the future
while the rest of them suggested that it will help increase
their knowledge.
However, a minority of the students disagreed that
tertiary education is important. 7.5% of the science
students and 2.5% of the accounting students are more
inclined to pick a job while the others thought that
pursuing tertiary education is a waste of time and money.
THE CHOICES OF UNIVERSITIES MADE BY THE
STUDENTS OF MALACCA MATRICULATION COLLEGE
Secondly, we found out that 25% of the accounting
students and a majority of 52.5% of the science students
chose local university as their first choice university
program. This shows that a greater number of the students
prefer local universities due to the affordable admission
fee. The rest of the students preferred private university
as they thought that it would be a better option. Despite
the expensive admission fee, it seems like private
universities have a lot of advantages in their opinions.

PROGRAM
MALACCA

Thirdly, based on the graph, it shows that most of the

science students prefer foundation as a pre-university
program with a high percentage of 42.5%. However, for

accounting students, only a minority of them chose

foundation as their first choice with a percentage of 10%.
This is due to the fact that foundation for accounting is
quite limited, while foundation in science ensures a spot in
their university of choice thus, science students prefer
foundation over anything else.
Based on the graph we could also conclude that both
science and accounting students chose matriculation as
their
second
choice
for
pre-university
program.
Matriculation is probably one of the best choices due to
the affordable admission fee and the fact that students are
provided with allowance and one of the biggest pros is
that it is a fast-track programme. The program is quite
similar to foundation but with a more affordable fees.
For diploma, it is less preferred compared to the other two
programs mainly because the duration for the program is
three years. Most students do not want to waste time in
getting their degree thus they preffer fast-track programs.
As for A-levels, the graph shows an equal percentage of
7.5% for both streams. A-Levels has the lowest percentage
probably due to the fact that the overall fees is quite high.
