Homework No.3
Due on October 19, 2016 (Wednesday, 5pm)

1. For the circuit shown in Figure 1, assume VDD = 1.2 V, W = 4 m, and L = 0.13
m. Use the transistor models from problem 2 of HW#2.

a. Choose RREF so that the output current IOUT = 200 A.
b. Calculate the output resistance assuming that all transistors are in
saturation.
c. Calculate the range of voltages at the output over which the transistors
remain in saturation.

2. For the circuit in Figure 2, assume VDD = 1.2 V, W = 4 m, L = 0.13 m, RD = 1
kW, IB = 400 A. Use the transistor models from problem 2 of HW#2.

a. Calculate Rout,dm, Rout,cm, Adm and Acm for Vid = 0 and Vic = 0.9 V, assuming
that all transistors are in saturation.
b. Calculate the range of common-mode input voltages Vic for which all the
transistors remain in saturation. Assume Vid = 0. For this step, do not
assume that the input voltages are limited to [0, VDD].
c. Calculate the range of differential-mode input voltages Vid for which both
input transistors remain in saturation. Assume Vic = 0.9 V.

3. For the circuit below, assume all bulks are tied to their respective sources.
VDD=1.8 V. Lmin=0.18 m. Vin is referenced to the negative supply rail.

a. Choose RREF such that the bias current through M2-M5 is 1 A.

b. Choose the W/Ls of M6 and M7 so that the output ranges from 1.0 to
1.0 volts with the highest efficiency and smallest area. All devices should
be in saturation over the range of operation. You may choose your own
value for the DC level at the input.
c. Calculate the sine wave efficiency (power into load/total power) for a
sine wave output with an amplitude of 1 V.
