Comment [1]: Please Note this lesson is the
second lesson In a sequence of lessons which
focus on HOPE. The first lesson focused on
setting down the foundations with definitions
of hope, why it may be needed and where they
have experienced it themselves. This lesson
focuses more on how we can be hopeful when
we are presented with challenges.

Recent Prior Experience:

Students been looking at the various emotions, which may be felt particularly being thankful and how this affects them.

Previously student defined what hope means and highlighted its significance within their own lives, drawing connecting to the symbols, which are
associated with hope.

Syllabus Outcome(s):

COS2.1
- Uses a variety of ways to communicate
with and within groups.
INS2.3
- Makes positive contributions in group
activities.

Indicators of Learning for this lesson:

Assessment:

By the end of this lesson, the students will:

Communicate their understandings of what hope is, by

highlighting examples of what it means in relation to a
scenario
Share examples of what it means to be hopeful
Contribute to class discussions
Demonstrate through their tableau what it means to be
hopeful in small group.

GDS2.9

feelings
Any safety issues to be considered:

Comment [2]: The following outcomes
taken from the syllabus are the foundation for
the learning activities assessment and
reporting that took place throughout this
lesson.

Comment [3]: The assessment which took
place throughout this lesson ensured that I was
able to design lessons which were more
implicit and focused on observations
throughout the course of the lesson, proving to
be very valuable in informing me of student
learning.

LESSON SEQUENCE
Lesson Content / Indicators of
Learning:

Timing
(mins)

Teaching Strategies / Learning Experiences:

(How it is taught)
teacher (T) students (Ss)

Resources and Organisation:

Ss will be asked to recall what we looked at in the previous

INTRODUCTION
Reflection on previous
understandings

10
mins

Communicate their understandings of

what hope is, by highlighting examples
of what it means in relation to a scenario

T will affirm the definition of Hope to remind Ss

T will provide the class with a scenario, what you may be
hopeful for in this particular instance.

Share examples of what it means to be

hopeful

Resources:
- Whiteboard
- Markers
- Scenarios (Appendix 1)

You are swimming and all of a sudden a shark appears,

what would you be hopeful for? Would it be that it doesnt
recognise you, that you will be able to stay very still, that you
have no cuts on you, that there is a cage between you and
the shark or that it is a baby harmless shark.

Contribute to class discussions

T will give each S a scenario and ask them to consider what

they may be hopeful for within the scenario.
T will ask Ss to pair up with someone and discuss there
scenarios and choose one of these to continue with, Ss will
be required to debate which is a better demonstration of
Hope. 2 pairs will then become a group of 4, Ss must pair up
based on a theme, to ensure there are no groups of Ss who
will distract one another. Ss must choose one of their 2
scenarios and share this with the class including what they
will be hopeful for.
DEVELOPMENT
Students work towards
understanding what the theme of
Hope means.

35- 40
mins

T will ask Ss to remain in these groups of 4 and together

create their own scenario, constructing a storyboard for how
it will progress in a drama performance. Ss will be required to
construct a story map with a minimum of 4 and maximum of 8

Ss will work at their desks.

T will undertake purposeful roving.

Comment [4]: Each activity of the lesson
sequence is aligned with the outcomes and
indicators identified during the lesson
overview. Throughout the introduction I have
been able to assess what students have come to
understand previously, discuss these and then
continue to the learning with application of
new understandings in the development and
reflection in the conclusion.

Communicate their understandings of

what hope is, by highlighting examples
of what it means in relation to a scenario

boxes.
T will highlight that Ss will also be asked to show the class a
tableau of their scenario so that the class may guess what
they are hopeful for. T will note that a Tableau is a still image.
