Use this booklet to help structure your planning and collate your planning documents.
Considerations:
There are lots of things to consider in this project. Fill out each section in detail to show you have thought about each one. You
should imagine that this is a live project, so considerations like cost, quantity and codes of practice must be thought about in that
context rather than just as a college project.
Costs: My childrens book doesnt have any costs as the college has the resources I require to create my
childrens books.
Quantity: When producing my book I will be creating it on a minor scale, this means it will limited, although
the book is limited I want the book to be sold in and round Yorkshire areas because this gives the reader a
more personal experience with my book. Producing book will mean that the book will have to be created
hundreds of times The childrens book will be produced for a English market as the story is a traditional
Yorkshire story because other cultures may not be able to understand the story.
Audience and Target Market: My Books target audience is children aged between 3-7, as at this age
children can understand what is happening as well as be drawed into the illustrations. Although the book is
designed for children it also needs be suitable for parents as they will be the ones who purchase the book
therefore my book will look professional and sleek. There are already thousands of childrens books out there
on the market and many of them are very popular, most of the childrens books on the market are basic with
simplistic illustration and because of this I will be creating my childrens book in a simplistic way in order to
make sure the book is targeted at my audience.
Quality Factors: When creating my book there will be factors in which can affect my work one of these is
motivation, as I need to be motivated in order to produce the best work possible. During the planning stages I
need to have created a successful and useful plan, as this will allow me to stick by this plan and just develop
my initial ideas when producing the book. File management is important when producing the book and
because of this I will make sure that the files will be organised and back up to many different sources as this
means if my flash drive is corrupted or lost, I can carry on from where I left off.
Codes of Practice: The code of practise is the publishers association codes of practise; these are the rules,
which publishers must follow when interacting with an author. One of the rules is that The publisher must
not cancel a contract without good and proper reason.
Regulation: If any books fall in the Toy category then you the book must comply with the Toy Safety
Directive 2009/48/EC but this only applies if the book is to be sold on a European market. In childrens books
there is no real regulation and the Toy safety directive is the closest the children book market has. If the book
contains any stereotypical racist then it can also be subject to the Equality Act 2010, there is also the
obscene publications act and this means that the work must be suitable for its purpose or it could be subject
to the obscene publications act.
Copyright: In my story copyright is irrelevant in regards to the story as it is a traditional medieval local story
therefore there has never been copyright placed on the story therefore I can use it copyright free. Although
many original images have been used in order to help me produce the test pages so in order no to be subject
to copyright I will make sure my images are adapted and dont resemble the original image used to as this will
mean I can avoid any copyright infringement.
Ethical Issues: Ethical issues in my book are little as there is a female servant and male king and this could
show sexism as it shows that men are more respected and better than women, although to counter this I will
be making sure that there isnt a distinct difference in class as then it shows that men and women are more
equal.
Resources:
A successful project relies on good planning. Considering all the resources you will need for a project and then assessing which
you already have and which you need will help ensure you are ready to start your project.
If there is a resource you dont currently have, then consider how you are going to get it before you go in to production.
Resource:
Do you have
it?
Computer
Photoshop Software
Pens
Paper
Storyboard
Script
Production Schedule:
Delivering your project on time is vital. In order to do this, you need a solid plan of action. This will help you divide up your work in
to manageable chunks to be tackled one at a time. It will also allow you to plan which tasks need to be done in which order. It will
also allow you to track your progress each day. If you are falling behind, you will need to modify the way you work. If you work
faster than expected, you can clearly see what the next steps you need to take are.
