Schul, James E. "Pedagogical Triangulation: The Mergence of Three
Traditions in

History Instruction." The Social Studies, vol. 106, no.

1, 2014, pp. 24-31.

Summary:
This article begins by saying how typically in high school, and
middle school, History isnt among students as their favorite class.
Next, the article dives into the three typical ways of teaching History.
The first is Traditional History. This type of teaching is having students
sitting, listening to lectures, and filling out worksheets with the
answers in the back of the textbook. The second method is the Social
Scientist method. This method is having students read primary and
secondary sources, and then solving historical problems or creating
histories of their own. The last teaching method is called Social
Meliorist. This approach requires a teacher to be knowledge, and aware
of social events, and incorporating them into their lessons. The Article
concludes by the author giving three lessons that explore all three
different methods of teaching. These lessons are designed to not limit

students experience with History but to make it impactful, and

interesting to the students.
Purpose:
The purpose the author is to help answer the question of, how
to teach History in a way were it feels fresh, and exciting to my
students? The lessons at the end of the article are designed to be a
template of how to form fun, and fresh lessons.
Audience:
The articles audience is middle to high school History teachers
who are trying to find ways to make History more intriguing to their
students. I feel the points being made in this article could be applied to
more subjects then History however.
Incorporation:
I found this article to be very informal as I make my lesson plans.
History can become a very dull topic if it is told in the same way each
and every class. I think the best teachers, are the ones who are able to
not just lecture, but who can lecture, create interactive projects, and
incorporate what they are teaching to the outside world. I want to
while teaching my lessons adapt, and use these different teaching
tragedies to my students, not only to keep them engaged but to help
them get the most out of the information as possible. My lessons are
designed to not just stick to one of the teaching methods. If I have
lesson that is more of a traditional study, the next lesson I want to be

more of a Social Scientist. By doing this in my unit, my students wont

become bored in my class because each day a new type of lesson will
be used.

Ferrarini, Tawni H., and Makr C. Schug. "History Matters; An
Institutional Approach Examination of the U.S. Constitution." Social
Education, vol. 71, no. 2, 2007pp.

Summary:
The article begins talking about why History matters. How we
learn more then just the past but also how the present, and the future
are connected to the past. Then the article dives into how did the U.S.
Constitution evolved. It talks about many of the influences that
effected how the Constitution was formed. Then the article talks about
whose interests were served by the document. The authors talk how
certain people benefitted greatly from how the Constitution was
formed. The article ends with what are the lessons that can be learned
from looking at the Constitution, along with why it has been so
successful as our guideline for government.

Audience:
The audience for this article is social studies/History teachers
who are teaching about the U. S Constitution. The terms used
throughout the article suggest that the authors believed that the
audience would be pretty well read on the events leading up to, and
following the U.S Constitution.
Incorporation:
I think this article did a couple of things very useful for me as I
teach on the U.S Constitution. The first thing being how I should talk
about the Constitution. What I mean by this is not just saying who
wrote it, and what it says. But look at it why is it formed the way it is?
Who benefits from this Constitution at the time it was written? And how
does the Constitution still affect us today? The second way this article
has been helpful is just the content in this article about the U.S.
Constitution. It would be easier just to list the things that is in the
Constitution, this article has helped challenge myself to think of ways
so my students can see how the Constitution is used today. In my
lesson I am going to have students compare and contrast the U.S
Constitution to another countries. By doing this, students will be able
to see what impact the U.S Constitution has had on other
governments, along with being able to compare and think about which
one has a better system.
