To Whom It May Concern,
I would like to be considered for an Associate Designer position in the area of Womens Knits and Sweaters. I was
informed of this opportunity through your job posting on your website. My design work experiences and education at
Iowa State University as a creative and technical design student have prepared me for this excellent opportunity and
make me an ideal candidate for a position with Eddie Bauer.
My current position as a Designer at John Boyt Industrial Sewing has been a very rewarding experience as a creative
professional. I managed a high level of responsibility as I handled all areas of the design process and beyond, including
customer consultations, custom design work, prototyping, patternmaking, specification development, costing, and
material sourcing. The products I designed, though not apparel, were performance-driven, and I am confident in my
abilities to merge and balance both the creative and technical facets that are required in Eddie Bauers garment design.
The design team at John Boyt serves both end consumers and other businesses, so I have been fortunate to work with
and effectively communicate with a variety of people. I am a very flexible and versatile individual and pride myself on
my ability to problem-solve, take initiative, self-teach, and excel in any situation.
In my academic program, I took several courses and participated in many activities that relate to this position. For my
capstone design course, I created an outdoor activewear line that was featured in our annual fashion show. I was the
only student to pursue activewear and knits and researched this type of design, patternmaking, and sewing entirely on
my own. Trend research was a vital part of every design project, and I continue to love finding new inspiration sources,
utilizing exciting forecasting technology, staying updated on apparel companies, and following consumer behavior. The
apparel design program at Iowa State is also integrated with the merchandising and product development programs,
and I have worked with these students to develop lines and become confident as both a leader and a team player. I am
a hardworking individual who enjoys learning from and collaborating with others.
I have always had love and respect for this brand as it has been a longtime companion in my own outdoor adventures
and sustainability practices. The outdoor lifestyle Eddie Bauer promotes has brought me personal growth, joy, and
vitality, all of which I hope to spread through my work. My valuable work experiences, quality education, and drive to
go above and beyond on the tasks presented to me would make me a valuable addition to your company. Thank you for
this meaningful opportunity.
Sincerely,
Kathleen P. Hart
