Axis Bank Foundation: Axis Bank Foundation (ABF) was setup as a Public Trust in
2006 to carry out the Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives of Axis Bank. ABF
has partnered with several NGOs to provide equitable education to various
underprivileged individuals across 13 states of India. With their continued efforts to
elevate the education levels in India, in 2011 Axis foundation ventured into the
domain of providing sustainable livelihoods. These programs aim at alleviating
poverty and providing livelihood options for economically weak households. Besides
the philanthropic initiatives of ABF, the Foundation has setup a Volunteering
program, encouraging the employees of the Bank to get involved and become
socially responsible citizens. ABF is also actively involved in making steps towards
reversing the effects of our ecological footprint, by implementing several
Sustainability Initiatives.

At Axis Bank, we believe that an equitable and good quality

education is the first step towards creating a life of dignity and
opportunities. Over the years, we have supported over 80 Civil
Society Organisations working with various groups and communities
in the field of education. With 22 current partnerships across India,
Axis Bank Foundation helps enhance the learning processes for
persons with disabilities, children from tribal and marginalized
communities and make it an enjoyable experience.

Special Education for people with Multiple

Disabilities
The key focus of the education programme is to
reach out to children and young adults across India
with multiple disabilities, make the government
and community aware of the lack of services and
knowledge about their disabilities and also help
them get included in existing systems and
services.
Apart from basic education,
need based knowledge,
consulting and supplemental
training, they are provided skills
such as life skills, computer training
and / or arts and crafts which would further
become a source of employment for them. These
learning techniques or classes not only give them a
platform to improve their confidence but also acts
as avenues for development of cognitive, physical
and socio-emotional skills along with improved
chances for livelihood.

Sustainable Livelihoods
A large percentage of India's rural population is
dependent on agriculture for their livelihood and
sustenance. Poverty still remains high and a

quarter of India's population still remain without

food security. Lack of irrigation facilities,
dependence on the monsoon for agriculture and
non-accessibility and unavailability of various
government schemes are some of the reasons that
have made agriculture an unviable occupation.
This in turn has led to large scale migration of
communities for better livelihood options, increase
in indebtedness and an overall instability in their
socio-economic conditions.
Axis Bank Foundation Livelihood Programme in
some of the poorest districts of the country aims to
impart positive change in people's lives by
providing direct solutions to these issues. ABF's
partners work in some of the most socio-economic
backward states to help improve irrigation through
rain water harvesting, make various government
schemes accessible, create market linkages and
opportunities for small enterprises and provide
credit linkages with banks. Through these
interventions, the foundation seeks to create
systems and opportunities which will ultimately
lead to employability, better income generation
and self-sustenance.
With focus on Livelihood Programme, ABF aims to
provide one million people with sustainable
livelihood options by 2017.

Highway Trauma Care

Axis Bank Foundation supports Lifeline Foundation
( LLF) on highway trauma and first aid emergency
care. This programme has remained as a key
partnership over the years spreading over the
states of Maharashtra, Gujarat
and Rajasthan.
In India, more than 1.36 lakh
people die of Road Traffic
Accidents (RTA) every year and
have become the primary cause of mortality in the
age group 15-40 years.

30% die due to delay in transportation or during

transportation, which is often primitive

50% die in hospitals within 5 days of admission, due to

infection & multi-system failure

Only 20% die on the spot due to open skull injuries, major
cardio-vascular injuries, multi organ injury or sudden acute blood
loss

It is known that 80% of these deaths can be

prevented if first aid or emergency care is provided
by trained experts soon after the accident.
Lifeline Foundation is credited with pioneering
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in many states
of India by establishing pre-hospital trauma care
for Road Traffic Accidents. Their services have been

recognized not only in India but also adopted

across the world. Today, LLF is the 3rd biggest
Emergency Medical Services Provider in the
country after Emergency Management & Research
Institute (EMRI) and Ziqitsa Healthcare Limited
(ZHL). Besides pioneering the Highway Rescue
Project, Lifeline also works in the areas of medical
care for marginalized (Medical Appliances Bank),
medical preparedness and disaster risk reduction,
policy advocacy at government level, training in
Emergency Care and good governance for nonprofits.
With Axis Bank Foundation's steady support, LLF
will continue to ensure highway accident
management and evacuation of accident victims to
nearest care centres on more than 3,420kms of
four-laned highways in the states of Rajasthan and
Gujarat . Training will continue to be given to law
enforcement agencies like highway patrol and
crime branch, state police officers, NHAI personnel,
Village Task Force (VTF) and those who are involved
in the transport and manufacturing of hazardous
materials and items as they are the people who are
the first point of contact in case of highway
accidents and a difference of life and death.
