This procedure has been established to standardize client and contractor requirements and improve
communications between client and contractor for High Pressure Jet Cleaning.
This Procedure will allow the user to make an informed decision on industrial cleaning processes
considering advantages, disadvantages, and risks.

General Safe Work Practices

All non-rotating equipment high pressure hose assemblies must include whip checks to protect
personnel from excessive movement of hoses in case of a hose rupture or blown end fitting.
. The Back Thrust Force for a Hydro blasting operator shall not be greater than 1/3 of their body
weight. Rotating operators in and out is also recommended due to the physical demand of the job duration.
All jobs require a line-of-sight between the equipment attendant and the hose end equipment
operator. If direct line-of-sight cannot be achieved, radio communication or use of an additional person for
line-of-sight must be utilized to assist in quickly deenergizing the equipment.
All personnel, when the system is under pressure, shall not be within six (6) feet of pressurized
connections unless the equipment is shielded or guarded in some manner
The Safety officer must present a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) to avoid the accident in
handling the chemicals left in the heat exchangers to be cleaned.

Work procedure
Area Preparation
The workplace should have permit before starting.
The area must be erected with Barricade post and signage.
The hazard must be eradicate (i.e. electric shock, noise, fire, etc.)
The Personnel in charge must identify any hindrances or interference in the workplace and
make some safety precaution.
o The Safety personnel must produce safety checklist in the operation of the machine.
o Service water and Electric line should be provided by the client

Lifting procedure
o The operation must have lifting permit before the execution of the lifting.

Barricade post and signage should be erected.

The Safety personnel and Project supervisor must be in vicinity of the operation.
Identifying the load to be lift is very important.
Check the condition of shackles, Hooks, cable, wire rope and other equipment
The persons whos in charge in the designated position are the only one to execute the
operation (i.e. foreman, lead man, and rigger).

The safety and operation officer should inspect the location.

Evaluate the work required.
Confirm the best scaffold choice.
Determine the scaffold duration.
Set the scaffold needed in the site.

Tools and equipment inspection

o The operation and safety department must provide the checklist about the tools and
equipment
o The tools and equipment must have safety tags.
o The machine should be warm up at least 10 minutes before operation.
o Check the hoses and guns if it is clogged.
o The hoses should be kink-free.
o The machine should have enough water supply.
o Hose connection should be fitted by the trained personnel.
o Secure the hose to the correct nozzle.
Operation of the lancing system

Hot works and cold works permit should be provided before the operation.
The machine needs to be warm up at least 10 minutes before the operation
Attach the service water to the machine and fit the connection properly.
Attach the hose together with a whip check and perform again a quick test for the clogging.
Attached the pedal, lancing hose and lancing nozzle and perform again a quick test for
clogging.
The lancer should mark the lancing hose to the appropriate length before start of jet cleaning
The machine operator must be always on the vicinity of the machine and must stay at least 23 meters away the machine.
There are at least two operator in the lancing operation, the lancer and the pedal operator.
All hoses shall be routed and protected in a manner that prevents vehicular damage and
personnel exposure to the hoses. When possible, roadways should be barricaded for vehicular
and pedestrian traffic where hoses cross roadways.
The personnel must wear proper PPE.

Operation of High Pressure External jetting or hydro blasting

o Hot works and cold works permit should be provided before the operation.

Attach the service water.
Start the machine and warm it up at least 10 minutes.
Check the hoses and guns for clogging.
Connect the hoses to the machine and add whip check in connections.
Start a low pressure water for Hoses and gun testing.
The machine operator should increase the pressure slowly.
The jetter must pull the trigger slowly while the operator is increasing the pressure of the
machine
