reviewed to determine that each partner group
identified two PA landmarks, including a written

Landmarks. With a partner, students will write a written
description of the Landmark and draw a picture of it.
Students with Behavioral Issues

classroom that is the least distractive for him/her

Students will listen and follow along as the teacher
models the use of the PA Markers app. Students will
then work with an assigned partner and use the app to
locate two Pennsylvania Landmarks. The students will
complete a Graphic Organizer using these two
landmarks. Finally, the students will create a State
Symbol Book by conducting research on their own.

descriptions, one for each of the Landmarks, and will
also draw a picture of each.
Next, the students will be shown examples of a State
Symbol Book that they will complete individually after
completing the Landmarker Graphic Organizer
Student will be provided with a checklist of tasks to
complete

Guiding the Practice


With an assigned partner, students will complete a
graphic organizer in which they will use an app on the
iPad called PA Markers
Students will locate and discover two Pennsylvania
landmarks on this app
Students will then write a description of each of the
landmarks on the graphic organizer
Finally, students will draw an image depicting the
significance of this symbol
Student will be provided with a checklist of tasks to
complete
Both verbal and nonverbal cues will be used to
remind the student to stay on-task and of rule
violations
Transition
Students will be provided with a suggestion of when
they should begin to wrap up with their partner and
move onto the State Symbol Book
Providing the Independent Practice
Students will return to their seats to create their State
Symbol Books independently.
Students will have the freedom to choose the format
that they would like to use create the book (on
computer, folded paper, stapled paper)
Students can use iPads and computers to search preapproved websites for state symbols. Students can also
reference books in the classroom library.
Students must create a book with a decorated title page
and at least 5 pages
Students books should include at least 5 State Symbols,

with the name of the symbol, a drawing, and a sentence


describing the symbol (sentence starter)
State Symbol Book will be completed and turned in by
the end of the class
Student will be provided with a checklist of tasks to
complete
