ThebayahisestablishedintheQuran,thebayahwasgiventotheProphet(peacebeuponhim)notonlyaspartofthebeliefinIslamandhismessengershipbutalsoas
partofhisauthorityandorganizationoftheaffairsoftheMuslimsinthedeenandduniya:

OncesuchexampleiswhentheNobleCompanionspledgedoathtoProphetunderthetree(BayahAlRidwan),beforeAlHudaibatreaty.Inthisincident,eachCompanion
placedtheirhandinthehandoftheBelovedProphet,andaffirmedtheirfaithintheonenessofAllah(tawheed).
ThisincidentisreportedintheHolyQuran,whichstates,
1)CertainlyAllahwaspleasedwiththebelieverswhentheypledgedallegiancetoyou,[OMuhammad],underthetree,andHeknewwhatwasintheirhearts,soHesent

toAllah,norsteal,norcommitadultery,norkilltheirchildren,norbringtheliethattheycarrybetweentheirhandsandfeet,nordisobeyyouinanyrightfulmatterthen
accepttheirallegianceandseekforgivenessfromAllahforthemindeedAllahisOftForgiving,MostMerciful.[SurahMumtahenah60:12]
4)ItisrecordedinSuraKahf,whereAllahhadorderedHazratMusa(AlaihisSalaam)toseekthecompanyofHazratKhizr(AlaihisSalaam)togaincertainhidden
knowledgethatAllahhadbestoweduponHazratKhizr(peaceandblessingsbeuponhim).[SuraKahf18,verses6582]
5)AllahazzawajaltookthesolemnpledgeofallProphetsandMessengerstobelieveinthefinalMessengerandtosupporthim.Allahsays,
AndrememberwhenAllahtookacovenantfromtheProphetsIfIgiveyoutheBookandknowledgeandthe(promised)NobleMessenger(ProphetMohammedpeace
andblessingsbeuponhim)comestoyou,confirmingtheBooksyoupossess,youshallpositively,definitelybelieveinhimandyoushallpositively,definitelyhelphimHe
said,Doyouagree,andacceptMybindingresponsibilityinthismatter?Theyallanswered,WeagreeHesaid,Thenbearwitnessamongstyourselves,andIMyselfam

6)AndrememberOdearProphet(Mohammedpeaceandblessingsbeuponhim)whenWetookacovenantfromtheProphetsandfromyouandfromNooh,and
Ibrahim,andMoosa,andEisathesonofMaryamandWetookafirmcovenantfromthem,SothatHemayquestionthetruthfulregardingtheirtruthandHehaskept

Oyouwhobelieve!ObeyAllah,obeythemessengerandthoseinauthorityamongstyouandifyoudifferinanythingbetweenyourselvesthenreferitbacktoAllahandHis
messengerifyoubelieveinAllahandtheLastDay.Thatisbetterandmoresuitableforfinaldetermination.(SurahNisa4:59)
Therearemanyotherayahsindicatingtheobligationoftheshariahauthority,unityandtheprohibitionofdisunityinaqeedahorauthorityingeneralhowevertheselected
onearequoted.Inshallahtheforthcomingsectionswillshedmorelightclarifyingwhatisauthorityandhowisitpassedoninchain.
10)AndfulfilthecovenantofAllahwhenyouhavemadethepromise,anddonotbreakyouroathsafterratifyingthem,andyouhavemadeAllahaGuarantoroveryou
indeedAllahknowsyourdeeds.[SurahNahl16:91]
11)andfulfilthepromiseindeedthepromisewillbeaskedabout.[Surahbaniisrael17:34]
AsseenintheaboveversestheQuranisencouragingthepeopletogivetheiroathandtokeeptheiroathtotheProphet(peacebeuponhim),wholeadsthemtothe
presenceofAllah,AlmightyandExalted.InitiationofbayahmuslimswasdoneinthetimeoftheProphet(peacebeuponhim)andcontinuedafterhisphysicaldeparture
fromourvision.

andstated,WiththesetwohandsIofferedallegiancetotheMessengerofAllah,mayAllahblesshimandgranthimpeace.Heheldouthispalmwhichwasashugeasa
camelsfoot,andwegotupandkissedit.

ifanyofthebelievingwomenacceptedthecondition(assignedintheabovementionedVerse),AllahsApostlewouldsaytoher.Ihaveacceptedyourpledgeofallegiance.
Hewouldonlysaythat,for,byAllah,hishandnevertouched,anyladyduringthatpledgeofallegiance.Hedidnotreceivetheirpledgeexceptbysaying,Ihaveaccepted

d)NarratedUbadabinAsSamit:whotookpartinthebattleofBadrandwasaNaqib(apersonheadingagroupofsixpersons),onthenightofAlAqabapledge:Allahs
Apostlesaidwhileagroupofhiscompanionswerearoundhim,Swearallegiancetomefor:
1.NottojoinanythinginworshipalongwithAllah.
2.Nottosteal.
3.Nottocommitillegalsexualintercourse.
4.Nottokillyourchildren.
5.Nottoaccuseaninnocentperson(tospreadsuchanaccusationamongpeople).
6.Nottobedisobedient(whenordered)todogooddeed.
TheProphetadded:WhoeveramongyoufulfillshispledgewillberewardedbyAllah.Andwhoeverindulgesinanyoneofthem(excepttheascriptionofpartnerstoAllah)
andgetsthepunishmentinthisworld,thatpunishmentwillbeexpiationforthatsin.Andifoneindulgesinanyofthem,andAllahconcealshissin,itisuptoHimtoforgiveor
punishhim(intheHereafter).UbadabinAsSamitadded:Sowesworeallegianceforthese.(PointstoAllahsApostle)[SahiBukhari,Book2,Hadith17]

Afterphysicalpassingawayofprophet,UmarrasaidtoAbuBakr,thatweelectyou,foryouareourchiefandthebestamongstusandthemostbelovedofallofusto
AllahsApostle.ThenUmartookAbuBakrshandandgavethepledgeofallegianceandthepeopletoogavethepledgeofallegiancetoAbuBakr.

b)PledgeofAlligiancetocaliphs
NarratedAbuHuraira:TheProphet(peaceandblessingsbeuponhim)said,TheIsraelisusedtoberuledandguidedbyprophets:Wheneveraprophetdied,another
wouldtakeoverhisplace.Therewillbenoprophetafterme,buttherewillbecaliphswhowillincreaseinnumberpeopleasked,OAllahsApostle!Whatdoyouorderus
(todo)?Hesaid,Obeytheonewhowillbegiventhepledgeofallegiancefirst.Fulfiltheir(i.e.theCaliphs)rights,forAllahwillaskthemabout(anyshortcoming)inruling
thoseAllahhasputundertheirguardianship.

chastisementforthem:
1)Apersonwhointhewaterlessdeserthasmorewater(thanhisneed)andherefusestogiveittothetraveler.
2)ApersonwhosoldacommoditytoanotherpersonintheafternoonandtookanoathofAllahthathehadboughtitatsuchandsuchpriceandhe(thebuyer)acceptedit
tobetruethoughitwasnotafact,
3)ApersonwhopledgedallegiancetotheImambutforthesakeoftheworld(materialgains).AndiftheImambestowedonhim(something)outofthat(worldlyriches)he
stoodbyhisallegianceandifhedidnotgivehim,hedidnotfulfiltheallegiance.(Sahimuslim,Book1,Hadith196)
e)PledgeofAlligiancetoImammehdi:
UmmSalamahrelates:sheheardthemessengerofallah,say:therewilllbedifferenceofopinionoverthedeathofthecaliph,(i.edifferenceonwhoshouldbeappointedas
thenextcaliph.onseeingthis)apersonfromthetribeofHashim(fearinghemaybeselectedtotaketheburdenofcaliphate)willleaveformakkahfrommedina.Some
peoplewillcomeandtakehimoutofhishousealthoughhewillresistit.Thentheytaketheoath(ofcaliphate)onhishandbetweentheblackstoneandstationofibrahim

(maqamibrahim)(onhearingthenewsoftheirallegiance)anarmywillsetouttowardsthemfromSyriabutitwillbecrushedintothegroundasitreachesBayda(aplain
betweenmakkahandmedina).afterthis,thesaintsofIraqandtheabdal(substitutes)ofSyriawillcallonhim.thena(sufyani)personwillcomefromsyria,hismaternal
relativesbelongingtothekalbtribe,hewilldispatchhisarmytowagewaronhim.Allahwilldefeatthem,resultinginthemfacingacatastophe.Thisisthebattleofkalb.so
anyonewho(doesnottakepartinthebattleofkalbandasaresult)doesnotshareinthebooty,willbeinloss.ThenthecaliphMahdiwilldiscovertreasuresanddistribute
themgenerously(amongthepeople).Islamwillbefullyestablishedonearth.peoplewillive(inthisstateofprosperityandcomfort)forsevenornineyears(thatispeople
willliveinpeachandcomfortuntilthedeathofMahdi)

Ithasbeennarrated(throughadifferentchainoftransmitters)ontheauthorityofAbuHurairathattheMessengerofAllah(maypeacebeuponhim)said:Whodefected
fromobedience(totheAmir)andseparatedfromthemainbodyoftheMuslimthenhediedinthatstatewoulddiethedeathofonebelongingtothedaysofJahillyya.And
hewhoiskilledunderthebannerofamanwhoisblind(tothecauseforwhichheisfighting),whogetsflaredupwithfamilyprideandfightsforhistribeisnotfrommy
Umma,andwhosofrommyfollowersattacksmyfollowers(indiscriminately)killingtherighteousandthewickedofthem,sparingnot(even)thosestaunchinfaithand
fulfillingnothisobligationtowardsthemwhohavebeengivenapledge(ofsecurity),isnotfromme(i.e.isnotmyfollower).(SahihMuslimBook20,Hadith4557)
h)Whoeverdiesanddidnotmakeanoathofallegiance(toaMuslimleader)hasdiedadeathofjahiliyah(ignorance).(SahihMuslim,KitaabalImaarah)

Inregardstosurahmaida5:35,seekmeanstoapproachAllahHazratSheikhAbdulQadirJilanistatesinGhunyatutTalibeenthatamurshidistobeacceptedasalink
andamediatorbetweenhimselfandhislord,andalsoasamethodandameansbywhichtoattainhim.HefurthersaysthatthespiritualguidesaretheroadtoAllah,the
signpoststoit,andthegatebywhichitisentered.ForeveryseekerofAllahaspiritualguideisthereforenecessary.[HazratSheikhAbdulQadirJilani]
WhoevertravelswithoutaguideneedstwohundredyearsforatwodayjourneyMoulanaRumi.
InregardstoSuraKahfverses6582whereAllahhadorderedHazratMusa(AlaihisSalaam)toseekthecompanyofHazratKhizr(AlaihisSalaam)togaincertainhidden
knowledgethatAllahhadbestoweduponHazratKhizr(AlaihisSalaam).HazratShaikhAbdulQadirJilanisaysAllahhascausedittobeanormalstateofaffairsonthis
earthfortheretobeamurshid(guide)andamureed(seeker)afollowerandonewhoisfollowedfromthetimeofHazratAdam(AlaihisSalaam)throughtheeraofthe
variousProphets,HazratNoah(AlaihisSalaam),HazratEbrahim(AlaihisSalaam),HazratMusa(AlaihisSalaam),HazratIsa(AlaihisSalaam)andtheHolyProphet
Muhammad.TheSahabalearntfromtheHolyProphet,thentheTabainlearntfromtheSahaba,thentheTabeTabainlearntfromtheTabain.Inthisway,centuryafter

centurythemasteranddisciplesequencecontinuedwithoutabreakthroughthesaintsuntilthepresentperiodandwillcontinuetilltheadventofthefinalhour.

MaulvihargisnashudMaulaeRum,TaghulameShamsTabrizinashud

ImamAbuHanifasaid,emphasizingtheimportanceofsittingatthefeetofaspiritualguideandteacher,Ifitwerenotfortwoyears,Iwouldhaveperished.Fortwo
years,IaccompaniedImamJafaralSadiqandIacquiredthespiritualknowledgethatmademeaknowerintheWay(i.e.Tasawwuf).[AdDurrAlMukhthar,Vol.1,page

MawlanaJalaluddinRumistatesinhisMasnavi,Buttercannotbeacquiredwithoutmilk,asrecognitionofAllah(ilmebaatin)cannotbeobtainedwithoutaspiritualguide
orMurshid.
GhausulAzam(radiAllahuanhu)says:IfapersonisunabletodifferentiatebetweenatrueandfalseMurshid,heshouldperform2RakaatsNafilforachieving
recognitionofAllahatTahajjudtime.ThenheshouldaskAllahtoinformhimofthosepiouspeoplewhowillbeabletoguidehimontheRightPath.Heshouldbeseech
AllahtoshowhimthepersonwhowillintoxicatehimwithAllahsloveandadorntheeyesofhisheartwiththelightofAllahsclosenessandinformhimofunseen
happeningsthathepersonallywitnessed.(InshaAllahbydoingso,onewillreceivetheanswer)(AlFathurRabbani,pg.146)(Ifsomeoneisunabletodothisthenhe
shouldseektheadviseofawellversedSunniAalim.Attimes,peopletakeadvicefromtheignorantandbecomeMureedsofShaitaan.MayAllahTaalaprotectus)
HazratGhausulAzamHadratSheikhAbdulQaadirJailaniRadiAllahuanhubringshomethenecessityofaMurshidinabeautifulmetaphor.Hesays:Theheartisthe
plantationfortheAakhirah(Hereafter).SowtheseedsofImaaninyourheart.Irrigate,fertiliseandmatureitwithregulargooddeeds.Ifthereiskindnessandenergyin
theheartitwillbefertileandanabundantharvestwillresult.Shouldtheheartbeharshandcontemptuous,thesoulbecomesinfertileandbarrenandnocropwillbeable
togrow.Learnthisartoffarmingbyitsfarmers/experts,theAwliyaAllah.Donotthinkyouropiniontobesufficient.OurProphetSallaAllahualayhiwaSalamsays,Seek
helpineveryfieldfromanexpertinthatfield.(AlFathurRabbani,pg.202)
HazratGhausulAzamRadiAllahuanhusaid:Arrogance,hypocrisy,egoism,areallarrowsofShaitaanaimedatyourhearts.Oneshouldformulateastrategytodefend
