Name: Aldana Flamini

I. Background
The learners are 7/ 8 year-old and they attend a private bilingual school in Lanus. They
belong to middle and upper class families. They have four hours of English lessons a
day. There are 27 students in the class and even though they have access to technology
and internet at home we are not allowed to give them homework.
Each classroom is equipped with a computer, a projector and speakers. Moreover, there
is a computer lab with 25 computers.
2nd grade students love learning about animals and they really like riddles, so I decided
to make animals the subject of my project. Furthermore, the 2nd grade text book
includes lots of units on different animals.
II. Issue or problem to be addressed that technology can help with.
These students have a good english level. They are good at understanding the language
and their level of reading comprehension is also really good. However, in my opinion
their writing productions are weak. They tend to make many mistakes when they have to
integrate the topics/grammar worked during the year. Moreover, as reading is one of the
goals in second grade and some sts still have problems with reading out loud, mainly
because they are afraid of making mistakes in front of their classmates, I want them to
practice reading aloud. So, I would like to motivate them and improve their writing
skills in a fun and technological way and also add reading practice.
III. Specific technology solution
What technology tool(s) do you consider using? If you are using websites/web tools/apps,
include the URLs.

I will use Wixie for them to make a drawing, and for the riddle book I will use Little
Bird Tales since it allows me to include audio, images and text to the book.

What do you want your students to do? Include steps to achieve the final product
I want my students to show their knowledge about their favourite animal by creating
a riddle. Finally, in order to motivate them to read out loud and improve their
reading skills I will record their voices to create an Animal Riddle Book with Audio.
For this project,we will play an animal riddle game (https://goo.gl/6qJc0R) and use as a
model to help my students to write riddles. This game will help my students in the
process and demonstrate various ways that riddles can be written. Then, sts choose

an animal and they draw it in a sheet of paper. They will write down what they
already know about the animal. I will correct their writings.
We will learn about animals bodies (flashcards that I created) and students will
rewrite sentences about their animal including the new vocabulary.
The idea is for sts to rearrange, delete and add text, and produce many drafts before
they produce their final riddle.
The riddle should contain four sentences:

Sentence 1: how the animal looks (a unique fact or distinguishing characteristic)

Sentence 2: what the animal eats
Sentence 3: where the animal can be found
Sentence 4: what the animal can/cant do
Finally, students record their voice reading the riddle on the first page and add their
illustrations on the second page that support the words in the riddle (the answer)

What do you think might happen when you try/use this technology with your students?

I think that they will be happy to visit the computer lab.

Include possible problems you may encounter. What will you do to overcome possible
problems?

Possible problem: Wixie is a very easy to use webtool. However, I think that some
students will find it difficult to use it. Especially, those students that get distracted
easily.
Possible solution: I will show my students how to use the webtool in advance. So,
they will get use to it before they get to the computer lab.
Possible problem: There are more students than computers in the computer lab, so
there are going to be students without computers.
Possible solution: I will sit them in pairs and they will work together in the
computer.
How will this be different from what youve done before? Consider SAMR model or TIM or
RAT
I think that this will be different since my sts have never used technology to do
homework. They are used to using computers and other type of technology to play
games.
Taking the SAMR model into account,I may say that I will be replacing the current
paper written book with technology (substitution) Moreover, sts will use tools such
as spell check, paste, and other basic functions that improve the task by using
technology (Augmentation) Sts will use a technological tool to create an online book
that incorporates text, audio and images redesigning the task by the technology used
(Modification) Finally, the creation of an audio book won't be possible without

technology. Sts will share their creation in the forum of the school with their families
and other sts (Redefinition)

IV. Final Product

What have your students made, built or created? Be sure to include your rubric or a description
of
your
evaluation
or
assessment
criteria.
Ill apply the use of the webtools (Little bird tales and Wixie ) to make students improve
their
writing
and
speaking
skills.
I explain to the children that they will make an animal riddle book. I ask each child to
think of an animal that they would like to create a riddle about. I brainstorm a list of
different animals with the entire class. After each students has an animal, I will give
them a sheet of paper, and they will write what they know about the animal including:
physical description, abilities, habitat and food that the animal likes eating. The idea is
for them to show me what they know about the animal and how they use the vocabulary
learnt
through
the
year.
I will use the I Used to Think..., But Now I think... routine to reflect how they have
change/develop
their
ideas
and
knowledge.
After that, I correct their homework and we will start working (on their mistakes). This
is important because I need to know what they need to improve.
We will start by reading (and guessing) some riddles. These riddles will engage children
in the process and show different ways that riddles can be written. While reading it, I
ask students: What clues helped you figure out the answer? What information is
included?
We will also revise parts of the body, for that I will use flashcards that I created for
them. We will discuss animals bodies and sizes. I will ask students to write sentences
about
their
animal
(including
adjectives
and
nouns
together)
Write
about
the
animal's
body.
-Color
and
type
of
covering
(fur,
feathers,
...)
-Special

(teeth,

...)
We will also work on the animals habitat or type of home. We will revise what we have
learnt
on
science
about
different
habitats
and
weather.
Write
about
the
animal's
habitat.
-Type
of
habitat
(forest,
ocean,
...)
Type of home (nest, cave, ...)
We will also work on what food do animals eat, whether their are carnivorous or not and
see if they have done it correctly previously (on the homework they did at the beginning)
We will work on ability. What can all these animals do ? The idea is for them to be able
to
write
relevant
information.

Finally, they will put all the previous information together to create the final riddle.
The idea is to work on different days for them to write little by little and see what they
did previously. Moreover, I will be working on their reading skills. I will encourage them
to read the riddles out loud and I will also ask them to read their sentences out loud to
practice
reading.

Why I have chosen this resource

It is an easy to use drawing web tool,
especially for children. It allows them to
choose a background image and there are
many tools for them to draw and paste
stickers. Moreover, the evaluation version
of Wixie allows me to download the images
that students create.
This is an easy-to-use tool kids to create
digital storybooks. It allows you to add
text, images and audio to the books.
Furthermore, it has a recording button that
makes this tool accessible to kids of all
ages.
This website is full of fun games for
children of all ages. This riddle game is
great for students to use as a model of how
to write riddles.

Is is an online web tool for creating

flashcards. Cram offers a wide selection of
flashcards for you to study, memorize, test
yourself on, and more. Once you create
your online flashcards, you will be able to
study or even share it.
