career since she left the company. After leaving the WWE, Massaro sought help
from the WWE, which she worked out with Anne Russo Gordon (a Manager of the
WWE Talent Relations Department). Gordon ran the “WWE Former Talent Rehab
Program” which treated Massaro for drug addiction in September 2010. Massaro is
also scheduled to have knee surgery in November 2016 for her wrestling injuries
which is paid for under New York’s Medicaid program. Massaro believes her
problems related to the medicines that she began taking to treat her numerous
worked related injuries. During her tenure at WWE she was seen and treated by
WWE Dr. Rios who shot her with cortisone as well as prescribed pain medications
and muscle relaxers. She describes Dr. Rios as a “good man under the thumb of
the WWE” who did his best to care for wrestlers like herself despite the pressure
by the WWE to have her perform with injuries. She cites the culture of the WWE as
indifferent the safety and health of performers who are unaware of their rights and
that the WWE did not report her injuries or accidents to OSHA or public health
officials. Massaro even related an incident while she was on a WWE Middle East
tour, in which she was sexually assaulted on a military base in Kuwait. Upon her
return to the United States, she was seen by Dr. Rios who interviewed her about
the incident. Dr. Rios reported the incident to WWE executives who soon thereafter
met with Massaro to apologize for their negligence but persuaded her that it would
be best not to report it to appropriate authorities. This incredible situation derives
from the WWE’s employment misclassification scheme wherein the WWE (deems
itself) neither responsible for Massaro’s safety (despite being on a WWE tour in the
Middle East) nor does the WWE deem itself responsible to report or collect data
