I. Drawing Peter in (v. 1-3)
A. Into the crowd Jesus was leading people.
B. Into the teaching a distracted listener is not a good listener.
C. We ought to be looking to draw people in...into the church.
We bring people into the presence of Jesus when we talk
about God and when we live a holy life (1 Pet 3:1).
II. Drawing Peter out (v. 4-5)
A. Into deeper water one-on- one with Jesus.
Peter needed to see Jesus in a new way.
B. Into deeper faith Peters reply includes two parts:
1. A word of reality: Master, we have toiled all night and
caught nothing.
2. A word of faith: Nevertheless at Your word I will let down
the net. Peter was ready to do as he was commanded.
C. When God asks us to step out in faith, there will always be a
measure of uncertainty.
The point is this: would he obey?
III. Drawing Peter down (v. 6-10a)
A. Into conviction of sin he was in the presence of God (not just
God above in the heavens, but God in the flesh).
With Jesus, conviction and confession of sin leads to salvation.
B. A lot of people who call themselves Christians wont make it to
heaven: (hypocrites and the self-deceived).
IV. Drawing Peter away (v. 10b-11)
A. Into service they forsook all and followed Him.
He had been fishing for soleand now he would be fishing for
souls.
B. God had plans for Peter, and He has plans for you.
He wants all of us to be fishers of men.. Every believer is
equipped for service in the church: we have a spiritual gift.
