EVALUATION (OUTCOME):
Discuss the following News Stories:
1. According to approach or treatment
a) Straight news As the name states, straight news are news
stories that are direct to the point. It is a timely report and is
usually written 24 hours after the event.
b) Human interest A human interest story is a type of news that
focuses on people in an emotional manner. This story may be
on an important person in society to an ordinary person in
extraordinary events. It should have a memorable ending.
c) Interpretative Interpretative news story is a way to explain the
news in a more understandable way. One example is from the
movie Confessions of a Shopaholic where the female lead
uses fashion to express financial matters to their readers.
d) News feature a feature story is considered soft news. It
focuses on human interest, mood, atmosphere, irony, and
humor. A feature story should be organized, well-researched,
and eye-catching.
e) Side-bar story A sidebar story supports the main story but it
focuses on only one content from the main news. Sidebar
stories are useful for readers who want to get the gist of the
story. Depending on the news, a story may contain one or more
sidebars.
2. According to time relations
a) Advance story This is a brief news item intended to inform the
public of an upcoming event. It must contain all details of the
event, as well as the people advised to go to the event.
b) Coverage story A coverage story is when a reporter/journalist
goes to an event and experiences it first-hand. Doing a
coverage story means that you must be very observant on your
