TO ALL PROMOTEES

(Sub Staff to Clerk, Clerk to Officer Elevation in Grade for Officers)


Dear Promotees (future vanguards of IOB)
I was talking my friend yesterday that I am going post a write up in face book to
all promotees in the recently held test/interview in the selection process to IOB
employees- where I served for four decades
The young MBA friend of mine disenchanted with work life imbalance in
corporate culture while discussing promotion exclaimed that Promotions are
conspiracies hatched by companies to retain hard working employees.
Congratulations them for becoming yet another victim.
I rebuked his iconoclastic thoughts and reiterated my traditional conviction that a
promotion is a sign of the three critical Ss Sincerity, Sacrifice and Success. I
stand by this statement of my convictions.
To me your promotion is just the first word in the first paragraph
of the first page in your success story. There is lot more in store
for you.
So, Congratulations for getting promoted!
More than how much you all deserve the promotion, the promotion deserves a
fantastic persons like you.
More responsibilities, tighter deadlines, bigger targets and working back till late
this is what a promotion really means.
Please note that promotions are not merely going through motions in scale
additions. It is a reminder calling for reciprocation of additional responsibilities
attached to scale elevation with renewed resolve and determination. The vertical
growth in your career should transcend in widening growth of the Bank
horizontally in all parameters of progress. Renew your commitment, zeal and put
in your best efforts to the growth of the Bank with enhanced social status, which is
achieved by you, by your performance and goodwill
Sorry to burst your bubble but someone had to do it!

Your promotion has elevated you not only in the eyes of your colleagues and
bosses, but also in the hearts of your friends and family.

Please note that the secret of success is consistency to purpose. Hence try not to
become man of success but rather try to become man of value. This calls for
encouraging, guiding the award staff with love, affection in true definition of the
role of a supervisor.
After all major value of life is not what you get, but what you become. Remember!
Success means having the courage and determination and the will to become the
person you believe you were meant to be.
Organisations are today undergoing metamorphosis. Whether one thinks of it as
becoming a learning organisation or simply as transformations into something
as yet unknown, no one would challenge the fact that the profound changes are
occurring worldwide. These challenges in the occupational environment have
implications for career development in future.

For any one joining the Banking institution, whether be sub staff or clerk, he
always looks at the career path and justifiably decides to go up the ladder at the
earliest. The subjective feelings and aspirations always cloud him from looking at
the issue in an objective manner. He feels that the promotion policy should be
there in such a way that may pave way for him to reach the good or his desired
ambition early. He will feel that any delay that may be caused due to several
barriers that will come in the way have to be made easy for him to reach the target
without much difficulty. Somehow or other he is keen to get an opportunity to get
promoted. He is not for stagnating at the particular cadre. But if opportunity is
denied / delayed he feels that his talents have been ignored. This psychological
impact slowly eats his efficiency and confidence. Slowly he will become
indifferent to the institution. Hence it becomes an important institutional task of
the Bank to see that more and more opportunities to their members so that
everyone of their members feel a sense of satisfaction that the Bank has shown the
career anchors for them. Thereafter, it is for the members to see how best they will
utilize these opportunities
Last few years we should be frank that our Bank is yet to see us in the brim of our
efforts as evidenced from the figures available in the balance sheets . I would not

like to go into the details for this sluggish growth, nor would we like to give
excuses. I loathe to be a bad carpenter complaining about tools and instruments.
Yet the bank has balanced your aspiration despite asset liability mismatch . For a
simple reason human performing assets of the bank have always stood up in time
of catastrophe having the banks interest in mind and have often demonstrated the
basic resilience and strength to regain our Banks high growth rate and it record
excellence in all areas. We contain in ourselves reservoir, artesian well of qualified
human assets. If only we realize what is possible and what we are capable of,
and make work pleasurable e ,we can plug the gap between what we can and
what we do.
We have the best workforce. We have devoted and committed soldiers. Therefore
we have all the potential to transform our Bank to recapture its position of glory in
all respects. What is required transformation of the will, determination and into
result oriented actions.
Remember! Only a sound and ever progressing IOB alone will ensure our
prosperous future. Whatever goals and objective we have for socio-economic
improvements, the fountainhead is LOW COST DEPOSITS, AUGMENTING
RECOVERIES which is the bedrock for profits. When deposits grow, the
business grows. When business grow the Banking expands in all its parameters,
career opportunities, request transfers, unhindered availability of various welfare
measures, more employment opportunities are the inherent benefits that are linked
to the progress, development, and growth of the Bank.
Today with banking becoming complex we have realized that besides educating
our cadres how of it is necessary to teach why of it which would give integrated
approach. Banking is certainly today becoming a complex function. The changes
of environment are taking place so swiftly that keeping pace is a demanding job.
Newer techniques and methods being introduced in quick succession in functional
areas. Peoples needs and expectations are changing rapidly. Banks are embarking
on providing new financial service, door step campaign in tune with the customers
needs. The operational horizon of the bank has moved away beyond national
priorities. Technology is redefining competition. The new generation of banks with
latest technology is now open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Not just this, Ebanking has metamorphosed the banking industry. The CEO of foreign bank says
we cannot have bank in every street corner but we can place in every home, every
phone, every personal computer. Such is the intensity of competition today.
Whatever we do must accord with reality otherwise it is wrong. In order to do what
accords with reality we must consider what is imperative, what is possible, and

what is possible depends on political and economic circumstances and above all
objective ground realities. The impetuosity and rash advance of the NBFCs/
Private / Foreign Banks, stock markets was a gust of wind, wasnt it. As it blew
from above it uprooted aspirations of the depositors, and their hard earned savings
vanished overnight with the stock markets crashing, with the speed of rocket.
This reality has awakened the vast middle class, who were hitherto numbed into
passivity, by glitter of TV advertisements, computers and consumerisms. Their
aspirations of quick money fostered by a hyper active media and their hopes for a
secure, peaceful existence lie shattered in the garbage can of unemployment,
retrenchments, layoffs, frauds and scams etc.. Slowly this class has started
reposing more confidence on Nationalized banks as the only alternative, where
their savings are safe, return and repayment on demand is assured..
Hence at present it is at once imperative and possible to develop and expand our
SB clientele base for which there is greater potential today than ever before.
Failure to tap this potential means to mark time and make no advance. Our legs are
for walking, and it is wrong to stand still all the time
YES! (Your Efficient Service)(Your Epicurean Sincerity) shall be the spirit of
our triumph! We shall exclaim with pride once again, we have done it, and
through our consistent efforts been able to convince everyone that our commitment
to causes that are just and right are invincible. By Yes! I mean the WIN- WIN
model of growth.
Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps
Our Bank is our hope and our dream. It is full of dream and the focus of our
dream. It is the cradle of our memories, and our enhanced social status. But we
have miles to go. We have tryst with its future, which beckon us. But we have
miles and miles to go. Still the distance is short, for we have the WILL TO
REACH ITS PEAK; QUICK, AT ANY COST. Hence, let us put in our best
efforts in strengthening the Bank as a union of strong will. We are confident our
members will work for success of our mission vision statement given below with
bold heart and clear conscience. After all success is doing ordinary things exordinarily well, Make success a habit. Victory will be ours.
Plenty of men can do good work for a spurt and with immediate promotion in
mind but for promotion you want a man in whom good work has become a
habit. . So now on let us pay greater attention to balance the needs of the family
with those of our institution as work becomes home and home becomes work
in this pragmatic model of growth we have together webbed.

To those who have not been fortunate to get through this time, we wish them better
luck next time and we assure them that our Bank will continue to provide further
promotion opportunities in the near future also. REMEMBER SUCCESS IS NOT
PERMANENT & FAILURE IS NOT FINAL !So, Never Stop Working after
Success &Never Stop Trying after Failure..
