TOPIC: COMMUNICATION AND CLASS

ROOM INTERACTION.

COMMUNICATION AND CLASS ROOM INTERACTION

Communication

is

sharing

of

common

experience with others. Communication is defined

as the process of passing ideas or feelings from one
person to another . Etimologically communication
has been derived from the Greek Word Communis
which means to make common. Thus when
something is communicated it becomes common
knowledge of communicators and receivers. You

may also come across a situation where a pearson

has been completely misunderstand his or her
listeners. There are many problems that families
encounter that on closer analysis reveal their origin
in miscommunication between family members and
the list to go on.

DEFINITION OF COMMUNICATION
Edger Dale defined communication as
sharing of

ideas, feelings in a mood of

mutuality.
Keith and Devis defined communication
as a process of passing information and

understanding from one person to another

In verbal communication the elements
include the sender of the message, the receiver
or listener, the message itself, the channels
through which the message is sent, and feed
back.

COMPONENTS IN COMMUNICATION
There are essentially four components in communication. They

are sender, message, medium and receiver. In teaching learning

process communication is a two way interaction between the teacher
and thought.

OBJECTIVES
At the end of this lecture, you should be able to
Define the term communication and its importance in classroom

instruction.
List and discuss the components / elements of communication.
Distinguish among the five forms communications.
Apply the communication principle in facilitating learners of
different learning styles (visual, learners, auditory learners,
reading / writing preference learners and kinesthetic learners.

ELEMENTS OF COMMUNICATION
Communication has six major elements for components.
Context

Sender/Encoder
Message
Medium

Receiver/Decoder
Feed Back
Noise (intervening elements)

CONTEXT
Culture which relates to a setting which determines the way

communication take place.

External stimulus, what can motivate students to respond in
oral or written form.
Internal

stimuli

like

opinion,

likes,

dislikes

emotions,

experience, competence, and confidence, which can influence

communication.

SENDER/ENCORDER
The person send message. In class
room

oral

communication

the

encorder is teacher and in return

communication the writer is the
encorder. Teacher uses combination
of words, gestures, symbols, graph
and pictures.

MESSAGE
The information shared between sender and receiver, for good
communication, the central idea of the message must be clear. Thus
teacher must decide what to communicate keeping in mind the context
and how the receiver (students) will interprets the message.

MEDIUM/CHANNEL
The sensory route through which
encorder

decorder.

RECEIVER/DECORDER
The person whom the message is being sent. Receiver (student) may
be a listener or a reader depending on the choice of medium by

sender (teacher) to transmit the instructional contents.

FEED BACK
The response of reaction of receiver to a message. Communication
is effective when it receives some feedback as it completes the loop
of communication.

NOICE
Anything that can distort the
message. These include physical
discomfort,

FACTOR AFFECTING COMMUNICATION CYCLE

Factor Related To sender

The senders perception of the receiver.
The senders concept of the environment.
The senders self concept and self knowledge.
The psychological readiness of the sender.
Personal factors like age, interest, health etc.

FACTOR RELATED TO THE LEARNER

Intelligence
Gender and age
Needs and motivation
Concentration and interest
Perception of learner about the sender.

FACTOR RELATED TO THE ATMOSPHERE

Openness and supportiveness.
Proper climate to communicate.
Devoid of noise.

FACTORS RELATED TO MESSAGE

Simple, easy to understand words.

Accuracy and position in words.

Simplicity and clarity.
Facial expressions and emotions.

Gestures and body movements.

CONCLUSION
The present study reveals that both learner and teacher know
about class room interaction, they consider that promoting it can have a
positive impact on a learners speaking capacities. It primarily gives the
opportunities to receive comprehensive input and feedback. So, through
a regular interaction with others, learners can try new hypothesis about
how English work and then then increase the pace of their speak
