1. OPERATING NOISE
1.1 Reduction of cooling fan noise
1. Symptom
The operation sound of the cooling fan motor which runs periodically when MFP is in sleep
mode (idle), the users may feel it noisy during nighttime. (As the fan runs suddenly, they may
think mistakenly that MFP has received faxes.)

2. Cause
The cooling fan operation during Sleep Mode is due to .the operations of the following
specification to secure image quality.
a) It is operated 1 time / hour for environment measurement (temperature and humidity
change).
b) It is operated 1 time / 3 days for preventing deformation of Fusing Roller.
3. Countermeasures
*The fan operation can be turned off by the following procedure.
Functional Limitation
After applying this settings, the MFP does not operate measurement of the inside temperature
and humidity; thus, image quality will not be guaranteed

b) Please set the engine Dip SW newly added in the Service Mode.

1. Service Mode -> Engine Dip SW -> Engine Dip SW 21 to ON.
OFF: Default (Normal operation)
ON: Restrict fan operation during Sleep Mode (idle) to reduce fan noise.

2. TROUBLE CODE
2.1 0094 error (defective operation of solenoid)
1. Symptom
Sometime after machine installation, C0094 error (2nd image transfer pressure / retraction
failure) occurs when power ON or printing etc.
2. Cause
Operation failure that the lever of paper feed solenoid (A034M20000) in the Vertical Transport
Assy sticks to the seal material (A034214000) and does not part easily due to deterioration of
the seal material.

3. Countermeasures
Please replace the seal of the paper feed solenoid with A034220100 (Production Application:
Ref. PMN).
* The above problem is different from 0094 error described on the section 2.2 that is caused by
Lack of Torsion Coil spring force of the IDC / Burr on Cover / Tight fitting between the cover
and the guide.

2.2 C0094 error (2nd Image Transfer Pressure / Retraction failure)


1. Symptom
C0094 error occurs when power ON or in operation.
2. Cause
IDC Cover (A0VD7061) whose motion is linked to 2nd image transfer retraction does not move
smoothly.
a) Lack of Torsion Coil spring force of the IDC Cover (A0VD7062).
b) Burr on the IDC Cover
c) Tight fitting between the IDC cover and the guide (secondary factor).
3. Countermeasures
a) Please replace the Torsion Coil spring A0VD706201 -> A0VD706203 (0.09N -> 0.14N
(Strengthened). Production Application: Ref. PMN).

b) [Temporary] Shave the burr off on the cover. (Handling: SE)


Please remove only the burr part using a box-cutter etc.
* Please use caution during work to prevent injury.

C) Please replace IDC Cover with the countermeasure one.

2.3 0F5x error (TE level sensor/x malfunction)


1. Symptom
0F5x error occurs when the printer is installed or a toner cartridge is replaced.
x is color of toner cartridge.
2.

Cause
When toner stays unbalanced in the cartridge, toner cannot be supplied to PU. As a result
0F5x error occurs.

3.

Countermeasures
Shake the cartridge to level the surface of toner when installing the machine and replacing
toner cartridges.
After 05Fx error occurs, please shake the toner cartridge of the indicated color well when
replace it.

2.4 0502 Error (Thermistor open-circuit failure)


1. Symptom
0502 error occurs when the fuser unit is replaced or jam paper in the fuser unit is cleared.
2. Cause
a) If the fuser unit is not correctly installed in the machine, the connection of Drawer connector
becomes insufficient (half lock), thus the temperature (thermistor line) of the fuser unit
cannot be sent correctly to PRCB, which results the temperature of heater lamp to increase.
And if this continues, the thermostat will work and 0502 error occurs.
b) When air comes in from the paper exit, the temperature around the fuser thermistor shifts,
therefore the thermistor falsely detects the temperature as low then it turns on the heater to
increase the temperature. Due to this, thermostat turns on and the heater lamp turns off
resulting in 0502 error.
3. Countermeasures
*When 0502 error occurs, either the cause is a) or b), the fuser unit needs to be replaced.
a) Check if the fuser unit is correctly installed in the machine after replacement.
If the cause seems to be half lock, install the stopper (A0VD168200).

After replacing the fuser unit, change the installation place. (Please do not place the
product in the place where wind hits.)
(Such as the place where air from air conditioner or wind comes in from a window hits the
machine.)

Production. The part number will not be changed as the part will be changed

2.5 Scanner lock error


1. Symptom
When turning on the power, Scanner lock error may be displayed when the scanner cannot
detect the home position.
2. Cause
1) The home position where the scanner returns varies therefore when the home position cannot
be detected as there is not enough time to detect it, then the error occurs.
2) When inserting the flat cable of IR Unit, the contact of terminal becomes turned over, then the
error occurs due to contact failure.
3) Other than above, MFPB/1 (Controller Board) or inside the Scanner Unit factor cause the error.

2. Cause
Communication error between the contact of main body and the chip on TB. Some oxide layer,
accumulated on the contact of main body, is assumed to be the cause of the error.
3. Countermeasures

If a false detection occurs after FW update and the falsely detected TB is recognized
correctly afterward by refreshing contact etc, the TB will be recognized as genuine. (Case

* Regarding refresh of contact of CSIC contact holder


Please perform the followings and repeat those for approx. 10 times to refresh contacts of
main body to prevent false detection.
[Procedure]
1. Place a TB on main body. (TB must be equipped with chip)
2. Rattle the TB so that the chip on TB will rub the contact of main body.
* Do not wipe contacts with cloth or paper. Fiber may adhere to the contact and cause
opposite effects.
[Permanent] Please update Engine FW as well as replace the contact holder with
modified one.
The contact holder is installed on TB drive Assy, however both parts of new and old ones
do not have compatibility. Therefore, for the old TB drive Assy, replace with old CSIS
contact holder and for the new TB drive Assy, replace with new one. Please refer to
section 3.2 (Countermeasure d) for details.

3.2 Toner irrecognition error


1. Symptom
The following messages that the toner cartridge is not recognized are displayed.

2. Cause
a) [magicolor 3730DN only]
As the front lower frame is curved backward CSIS contact holder goes back side, which
create a contact failure with CSIC of PU. As a result, it cannot communicate with machine
then the errors occur.
[Occurrence color: M/C/K]

b) When there is missing information in CSIC of PU or IC other than Y Toner (Y-IC), it


respond as Y, thus the machine detects two cartridges of Y toner are installed and
generate the error as it is abnormal. [Occurrence color: Y]
c) The harness that is for connecting to the CSIC contact holder is caught between the screw
and the protect cover, which creates an earth fault with the main body then the error
occurs. [Occurrence color: C/M/Y/K]
d) Due to defects of CSIC earth plate, the contact of the Toner Holder Assy or bended pins of
contact, communications cannot be established normally resulting in the error.

3. Countermeasures
a) To prevent the frame curving, replace M/C/K of PU rail with the modified part (P/N:
A0VD112000). (Please refer to the section 4.4 for replacement procedure.)

b) There is missing information in CSIC of the PU (IC) that was replaced right before the
problem occured, therefore, please replace the PU.
c) Remove the harness that is caught between the protect cover of the power supply and the
screw.
-If there is a tear on the wire harness cover, please wrap it with the insulating tape.
-If the core of a wire harness is cut, please replace the Harness Assy.
d) Please replace the CSIC Contact Holder.
Note) New types of TB Drive Assy and CSIC Contact Holder are not compatible with their
old types.

3.3 After replacing PU, the life end message remains or the
remaining quantity does not become 100%
1. Symptom
The remaining quantity will not become 100% or Life End message will not be cleared even
after replacing the bundled PU & IC or service parts PU & IC with new PU.

Cause
a) The connection failure between CSIC of PU/IC and CSIC Contacts due to the curved frame
at the front bottom side of main body.
b) Due to defects of connector earth plate, the contact, or bended pins of contact of CSIC on
the main body PU side, communications cannot be established normally resulting in the
error.

3.

Countermeasures
a) For the machines with the serial number (main body) before the countermeasure is
implemented, replace the three PU rails.
(Please refer to the section 4.4 for replacement procedure.)

4.2 Color toner is consumed quickly although print jobs are


mainly BW
1. Symptom
Although color print is rarely used and the user mainly prints in BW, color toner consumption is
rather quick.
2. Cause
Color toner is consumed by AIDC Process even when color print is not used.
3. Countermeasures
Updating the engine FW to the followings as well as changing the settings decreases the
number of AIDC process. After updating to this Special FW, output quality is not guaranteed.

4. Request for instructing customers regarding the setting
Since the Special FW greatly reduces the number of AIDC Process, it may result in decreasing
output quality (image quality, density) depending on the machine installation / usage
environment. When it happens, please instruct the customer to manually perform AIDC
Process on the operation panel. (Please refer to the following procedure for the settings.)

5. AIDC after the settings
AIDC Process is performed only for the following items by this Special FW.
1. When turning the power ON or opening and closing the door when a new IU, insertion of IU or
a new transfer belt is detected.
2. When a large environment change occurs (temperature / humidity)

4.3 Transportation procedure of Scanner Unit


1. Symptom
The scanner drive belt in the scanner unit may be off-hooked when it is sent to KMI.
2. Cause
When the scanner unit is sent without using the scanner lock, the scanner part (CCD) moves by
the handling and vibration during transportation, and the scanner drive belt comes off.

3. Countermeasures
Check the scanner is at home position first, and then turn the main power switch OFF. Then,
lock the scanner lock lever.
[Procedures]
1. Check the scanner is at the home position, and then
turn the main power switch OFF.
2. Slide the scanner lock lever to lock position.
*If the scanner does not return to the home position due
to a malfunction in the main body, please refer to section
4.5.

4.4 PU Rail replacement procedure


1. PU rail removing procedures
*Please replace the rails for 2 colors at one time.
1) Open the Tray 2. Then open the front cover and remove the Waste Toner Box.

2) Remove the toner bottles of Y/M/C/K. (except magicolor 3730DN)


Then remove the PU or IC (magicolor 3730DN).

3) Remove the PU rail of M/C/K. (One screw each)

2. PU rail installation procedures


Install the M/C/K PU rail. *Do not scratch or contaminate the glass part of the PH unit.

1) The back of the PU rail is set. 2) Pull the claw of the PU rail toward you until it touches
the surface of the front side of the front frame then
push the claw against the frame while sliding it down
to put it in the square hole.

3) When the claw is inside the hole, push it upwards so that the PU rail can be set completely.
Then secure the each rail using screws.
*Please check there is no space between the front
frame and PU rail

4) Set Y/M/C/K PU or IC (magicolor 3730DN) and tonner bottle (except magicolor 3730DN).
5) Set the Waste Toner BOX then close the front cover and the cassette. (End)

4.5 How to lock the Scanner Lock


<When the scanner failed to return to the home position>
1. Remove the scanner unit.
2. Tilt the scanner unit to set the scanner at the home position.

3. Slide the scanner lock lever to the lock position.

4. Check if the scanner is locked. (Please repeat the procedure if it is not locked.)
