Context for learning:

Does this build on prior experiences/interests of the children?

Students like to read to themselves or pretend to be a teacher to read a book quietly during rest
times. They love the variety of books and that new books get bought out each week. Also working
with the students towards getting ready for prep.
What is the focus? About what am I being intentional? Will I observe/record information?
Books Looking at the front cover. Can we use the front cover to tell us what the story will
be about?
Guiding Behaviour Consider what you need to put in place to support children:
Oscar extremely Sensory/ emotional support needed. Extra help with the younger students (3
year olds) Evan, Oliver and Kareese (Maybe break of into 2 groups depending what the other
educators have planned?)
Resources:
Books. Focusing on Wombat stew by Marcia Vaughn
Differentiation strategies: This might be consideration of an individual child and the strategies required
to support that child.

Extra support with younger students. Ask certain students what do we have to do? Before
completing the activity to check for their understandings in particular. (those students who arent
paying attention or those who need extra support)
You will use a lesson plan for group times (music, language, story, beginning a session etc). You need to think
though how you will engage with the children, the language you will use, the questions you might ask etc.

Transition

Goals Derived
from QKLG

Introduction:

Introducing the topic

and settling children

COMMUNICATING:
Exploring text
purposes and
meanings

Body:

COMMUNICATING:

How will you

transition to this
section of your
day/next
activity/lesson

Positive engagement
with a variety of print
and multimedia texts
and the arts.
Exploring text
purposes and
meaning.

Clapping sticks (used every day and students know the

expectations and exactly what to do when they hear
these sticks) Once gathered onto carpet move over into
the reading environment. Place hands on head,
shoulders, feet, knees. (Strategy to keep students
listening to me and staying focused and not talking or
running around)
Talk about Books. Look at the front cover of the book
does anyone know what we call this? Talk about how
the front page informs the reader what the story will be
about (Looking at the title and the pictures on the front
cover). Grab about 3 books from the bookshelf. Explicitly
go through the title names and the pictures on the front
cover. Then for each book have a discussion with students
What do you think this book could be about? What image
is on the front page? What do the characters look like?
And does the title tell us anything about them?
Then read the last book (Wombat Stew) to the students
and see if their theory/prediction is correct. Looking at the
animals and their expressions, the other objects and the
surroundings. Where could they be? Do these animals
look happy? Wat do you think is in this pot? Point out the
characters on the front cover and were they are in the
book. What was the book about? So did the title tell us
what it was about or not? Did the pictures help you to
have an idea of what it was about? So was our theory
correct?

Conclusion:

ACTIVE
LEARNING:
Ways to creatively
represent ideas,
feelings and
experiences.

Transition to
next activity
Evaluation / Reflection:
Notes:

Students will then be invited to close their eyes and think

of a story they would like to write. Everyone will be given
a little booklet. And pens and I will ask them to think of a
title (I can help them with writing or spelling) Ask
students to draw the front page of their book. I will then
ask students what they book is about and then looking at
their title is this them? Is that the place here? This will
inform me threw questioning if they have understood the
concept and the role a title plays in telling us what a book
with be about.
Because everyone will finish at different times and so
those who have finished arent distracting those who
havent have another activity set up that they can go and
participate in straight away.
