GMCL- (GRAM MOOLIGAI- VILLAGE HERBS) CO. LTD.

- PROFILE
ARTHA VENTURE CHALLNGE- 2014
Brief- Gram Mooligai (Village herbs) co. ltd. markets medicinal plants sustainably
gathered/ grown by the tribal in the forest tracts equitably.
EXTRA (above 140 characters)- It also manufactures & sells traditional medicines for rural
health security.
ProblemThe rural producers of the raw drugs get only 30% of the market price of the raw drugs &
2-3% of the medicines, which continues the rural poverty & overexploitation of the
natural resources, with little replanting or conservation. Adulteration or substitution of
the rare species or poor quality of the raw drugs is common, that harms the medicine
quality & consumer health, national productivity. There is little certification of
sustainable, fair trade or organic produce.

SolutionRural producer groups are trained by GMCL whom they also own, in good collection,
farming & semi-processing & collective marketing to the corporate under Village Herbs
brand, besides medicines for rural health security including womens or contagious
diseases. GMCL seeks support of the partner NGOs in this & is making efforts for fair
trade, organic & good collection certification.
