Area of study three: Artists and Studio Practice


Comparative Task Instructions
For this SAC you are required too:

Select and research at least TWO artists from differing historical and cultural contexts
(NOTE: The artists may be from the same historical contexts but differing culturally)

Choose and study TWO of EACH artists artworks

Discuss the artists use of materials, techniques, processes, and the use of art elements and art
principles to demonstrate aesthetic qualities and styles in artworks

Use appropriate language and terminology

Don't forget!
Before selecting your artists, read a little bit about each of them to ensure they
interest you and that you can find enough information on them.
This is a self directed learning task, and individual! You will have plenty of
class time before the SAC to research and give an in depth analysis on your
chosen artworks
Remember to discuss the historical and cultural characteristics of each artists
and their work
Any statements you make must be backed up with quotes; they can be artists
quotes, curators, newspaper or critic.
When analysing the artwork...

Remember to recognise historical and contemporary artworks and their varied art forms

Analyse and investigate in depth the artists choice of subject matter, the way they
communicate their ideas and their use of materials and techniques, art elements and

principles

look at the ways in which aesthetic qualities are created by the artists and perceived by the
audience (YOU!)
