Journal SRT (Rocket)

Week 9/10
We have started to design our rocket and started researching rocket models.
There are some few design that I was intrigued by.

The models had to be powered by black powder to make it burst out into the sky.
1. All of the components necessary to build a rocket were a nose cone,
parachute, fins, engine, fastener, rocket engine, fuse, body tube and fuel
2. Parachute system, launch system, fuel system, engine system
3. Solid rocket engine, liquid rocket engine
Week 1/2
This week was a new week to term 4. I had to hand in my USB to the teacher and
get started on designing my fins. The models of the parachute has been handed
out to the class. The parachute was made with a piece of thin fabric and had to
hot glue the strings on the parachute.
Week 3/4
This is a new start to the term and classmates have already started gluing and
cutting out there bulsa wood. I have already cut out my bulsa wood and waiting
to glue them on. The minute I finish gluing them on I put it on top of my shelve. I
came back and saw that one of my bulsa have snapped off and had to quickly
cut out another one and glue that on. My fin design were:
Fin Design
1. Length (max 15 but 10cm ideal)
Width (max 5cm)
2. How may fins?
3 ideal
4 max
3. Measure fins on paper first
4. Draw fins onto Balsa wood using a blunt pencil
5. Draw your fin position onto cylinder, for all 3 fins top & bottom
6. Carefully cut out fins using a knife on chopping board
7. Paste using a paint brush a small amount of PVA glue leaving 2 blank dots
on either end for the hot glue

Tip here is to use a string to measure around the cylinder to make it easier for
positioning the right place to glue on the fins.

We have come near the term and have gotten my nose cone piece having to
realise that my measuring was a little off. My nose cone did not fit in my cylinder
and so what I did was twist it in until the cylinder became better and a little
improvement to the nose cone.
Week 5/6
These two weeks I have been working on my parachute and spray painting. I
have decided to spray paint my rocket cylinder a pink colour with the fins spray
painted gold. The parachute has been done and Ive already hot glued on the
strings. We have been the instruction on how to attach the engine to the
cylinder. We had to get our disc and sand paper it down to put our cylinder and
to also fit the engine to. I have been told to put in my nose cone until where it
fits so then when it goes up the nose cone will fall out and the parachute would
come out from it. The teacher from the other class came in and told us about
how the nose cone and the cylinder would be put together with a parachute. We
had gotten each a piece of elastic so then it would not snap off straight away.
