It is a new and creative approach

(way of thinking) towards products
and production processes

It is the continuous application of

an integrated, preventive strategy
to processes, products and services
to increase efficiency and
reduce risk to humans and
the environment

How to do CP ?
WHERE
are waste and emissions
generated?
WHY
are waste and emissions
generated?
HOW
can these causes be
eliminated?

For production processes:

cleaner production includes

conserving raw materials and energy, eliminating toxic
raw materials and reducing the quantity and toxicity of all
emission and wastes before they leave a process

For product:

For services:

the strategy focuses on reducing impacts along

the entire life cycle of a product from raw materials
extraction to the ultimate disposal of the products

CP reduces the environmental impacts of the

service provided over the entire life cycle, from system
design and use to the entire consumption of resources
required providing the services

Why is CP important
for the industry
It not only helps to avoid negative environmental and health impacts, it
has some direct benefits for the companies such as:

cost savings through reduced wastage of energy, materials and

auxiliary chemicals
Improved operating efficiency of the plant
Better product quality and consistency
Recovery of some wasted materials
Possibility to improve the working environment (health and safety)
Improvement of the enterprises image
Better compliance with environmental regulations
Cost savings for the end-of-pipe waste treatment
New and improved market opportunities

Cleaner Production Investments

CP projects are not realized due to:

Lack of capital

Poorly developed financing mechanism

Lack of knowledge

Technology risks

Management unwillingness to borrow money

Lack of incentives like water price, energy price, cheap raw material, poor
enforcement of environmental laws
