thetransitionfromFAAtoJeppesenplates.Maybeyouarestudyingfora
regionalairlineinterview,oryouareinthemilitaryflyingoverseas?
Whateverthereason,switchingtodifferentplatesisapainatfirst.The
informationisthesame,itisjustlocatedindifferentplaces.
Iamnotheretoarguewhichisbetter.Ihaveusedbothextensivelyformy
jobwitharegionalairlineandforthemilitary.Theybothhavetheirups

First,youneedtounderstandthemaindifferencebetweentheJeppesen
andFAAchartsistheJeppesenchartspackEVERYTHINGontoone
page(ortwopagesforbigairports).
TheFAAcharts,ontheotherhand,distributethesameinformationin
severaldifferentlocations.YouwillneedtogotheAirportFacility
Directory,theTakeoffminimumsandAlternateMinimums,LAHSO,and
AirportDiagramtogetthesameinformationyouwillfindononepageofa
Jeppesenplate.

TheJeppchartsputthelat/longlinesofftothesideofthechartinan
efforttokeeptheclutteroffthediagram.
NoticetheFAAchartsrunthelat/longlinesthroughtheplate,whichis
kindofnicebecausethatshowmapslook,butitdoesaddclutter.
Also,theofficiallat/longoftheairportisatthetopoftheJeppplate,butin
theFAAchartyouhavetodigfortheofficialairportlocationintheA/FD.

heading
Whenyoulineupontherunway,mostofthetimetherunwayisoffafew
degreesfromtheactualrunwayheading.
Forexample,inSalem,therunwayis310,butwhenyoulineup,ifyou
centeredyourHSIsbug,itwouldactuallybe313degrees.
TheJeppplatesasseenbeloweasilyhighlightthis,buttheFAAcharts
putthisnumberofftotheside.SurprisinglytheFAAandJeppchartshave
