Pore pressure, Fracture gradient, Casing seat selection, Factors
affecting penetration rate, Casing string design, Cementing design,
Well completion, Hole problems, Introduction to directional
drilling.
This course is designed to provide students with some design
aspects on drilling operations and to acquaint them with use of
different completion techniques, to instruct on design requirements
for different drilling programs.
Introduction (1 class),
Pore Pressure. (2 classes).
Fracture gradient and casing seat selection. (2 classes).
Factors affecting penetration rate. (2 classes).
Surge and swab pressures. (1class)
Casing string design. (4 classes).
Cementing design. (4 classes).
Completion
types
and
applications:
single/multiple
completion; methods of zonal isolation; perforation
fundamentals, guns, use of screen, liners, and gravel packs. (5
classes).
Drill stem testing. (2 classes)
Hole Problems. (2 classes).
Introduction to directional Drilling. (3 classes).
Tests: (3 classes plus final exam)
Classes are held two times per week in 50 minutes lectures plus
one tutorial class of 50 minutes per week.
