Who drives the bus?
Personal goal setting is all about the question 'who drives the bus?' This question, repeatedly
asked by Richard Bandler, co-founder of NLP, inspires you to take command over your own life.
Too many people let their lives be determined by outside conditions and affairs. Guided by their
senses they let their minds be filled with what they see, hear, touch, smell and taste. And this way
they constantly create their lives in accordance with what the outside world is dictating.
Your life is meant to be created by you. So fill your mind with the pictures you choose yourself,
build with your inner senses. And subsequently enjoy the creation with your outer senses.
Personal goal setting is the way to get into the driver's seat. Following your desires and wishes
you imagine how it is to have them come true. A goal is nothing more than a picture of a wanted
future state in your mind. And because it is wanted it is associated with the feelings of
satisfaction, excitement and appreciation. And that's why goals are so important. Those thoughts
and feelings are the foundation of your future experiences.
You create them by using the law of attraction. The more clear you are, the more you focus on
them, the sooner they manifest. Energy flows where attention goes.

Personal Goal Setting Tips


I'll give you some goal setting tips to make the most out of your goals.
1. Always state your goals in the positive.
Because your mind works mostly in pictures it cannot form an image of what you don't want.

You just can't say 'don't think about a pink elephant' while not thinking about a pink elephant. It's
impossible. You only can focus your attention on something else, something you do want to
picture or think of. Tell in your stated goals what you do want.
2. Keep the goal within your control.
Don't let the achieving of your goal be dependent on the support or good will of others. You are
responsible for your achievement so keep that responsibility where it belongs: with you.
3. List your goals in detail.
Make them as clear as you can. The more details you can put in the easier your subconscious
mind can work them out.
4. Be aware that your goals are, as we call it, 'ecological'.
They should be in harmony with your purpose and your other goals. Keep in mind that you will
get resistance and could sabotage yourself if you don't harmonize your goals.
5. State your goals in the present tense as if they are already achieved.
The mind can only work in the present. It is the only moment that really exists. If you act, in
your mind, as if your goalachieving is done you are aligned with the vibration of it. In fact, in the
non-physical world your goal is already achieved. The physical world will reach that point soon.

Self Esteem Affirmations


In A Way That Makes Them Work

Self Esteem Affirmations are a powerful way to build your Self Esteem. Our thoughts and self
talk direct the way we are heading in life. You can see them as instructions from 'headquarters'
and they shape and control our actions, our health and our results. But sadly enough most of the
instructions we give ourselves we are not aware of. Over and over again we say bad things to
ourselves that makes us feel disturbed and makes us do the wrong things or things in a twisted
way. And we don't even know that we are thinking it untill our behaviour, our feelings and our
results are showing us.

Stop hurting yourself and get in command again. Replace the bad affirmations with powerful
positive ones and start changing your life for the better.
To start I'll give you five reasons why affirmations don't work the way most people use them.
Secondly, I will give you the right formula to powerfully get the wanted results with self esteem
affirmations.

Five ways in which self esteem affirmations won't work


1. state them in the future or as a hopeful wish
Most people state their affirmations in the future tense like: 'I will be rich' or 'I am going to be
happy'. But in reality and for the mind there is no future. You will never arrive there because the
next moment is also now. There is only now, this moment or the present. So state your
affirmation firmly in the present tense: 'I am rich'. 'I am happy'.
Affirmations like 'I wish I had a lot of money' won't work either. It might happen or it might not
happen. Any way this statement does not steer your creating powers undoubtedly in the right
direction. Think for instance about a commander in the army who kindly requests his men: 'well
gentlemen, if you don't mind, I really would like you to attack the enemy, if you would be so
kind and you are ready'. I guess it's quite evident that an instruction like 'attack, now!' has more
chance of getting the right response. Be firm and positive.

2. speak out what you don't want


Many people tell themselves over and over what they don't want. 'I don't want to be in debt'. 'I
don't want to argue all the time'. 'I don't want to feel uncertain'. But the only thing the mind can
do is make a picture (in five senses) of the mentioned item, feel bad about it and let the creative

powers do their work. You'll get the opposite of what you want.
A working affirmation is stated in the positive. Tell what you do want!
3. tell them once in a while
When people start with positive intended affirmations they do it once, maybe twice and forget
about it. The fact is that the negative automated affirmations tend to overrule them totally
because those are repeated so often, unintentionally.
For affirmations to work you have to use them very regularly untill it becomes a habit. So now
you have automated them you use them over and over without conscious thinking about them. It
has become your second nature, a positive self talk.
4. believe what negative people tell you
Many people will tell you that affirmations don't work. They think it's strange to tell yourself
those statements. But they are not aware that we do that all the time and most of the time in a
negative way.
Replace those denials with your firm self esteem affirmations and believe it will work.
5. deny your unlimited potential
We sometimes forget that we only use a fraction of our mind. 95% of the creative ability of the
mind lies dormant waiting to be called upon. Self esteem affirmations will program your mind
for success and happiness.

The ways in which self esteem affirmations do work


It may be clear that the opposite of the five ways in which affirmations won't work give you the
right way to use them, as mentioned above. I'll give you the summary:
State your affirmation in the here and now, in the positive, do them regularly, believe their truth
and believe in the truth about yourself.

Examples of Affirmations
When you make a statement about who you are it is more powerful than when you tell what you
have, what you can or what you do. The affirmation on an identity level (neurological level of
identity) works through on the levels of believe, capacity, behaviour and environment. Even in
the bible the I am statement is recognized as power.
In his book The Master Key System Charles Haanel gives an affirmation that gives a compleet
declaration of the truth about you. It says: 'I am whole, perfect, strong, powerful, loving,

harmonious and happy'. This statement will bring you in close alignment with your Inner Source
or what Esther Hicks calls 'Source Energy'. And from that place everything is possible.
All the affirmations in the mirrors of the animaldrawings on the various webpages are real power
in this sense.

Who You Really Are

The Teachings of Abraham


Esther Hicks is the physical voice of this multidimensional being called Abraham. You may
believe it at once or you may feel resistance or cynicism, what they tell us simply works. And
you can only prove it yourself. Let me give you a short outline in my own words first. It's quite
simple if you'd be able to swallow the teachings of Abraham by Esther Hicks:
We are in Essence non-physical beings, Source Energy, which will live on when our physical
body stops. Everything is energy, so you are energy. All energy vibrates and what you focus your

attention on will come to you in this physical world. Energy flows where attention goes. Or in the
words of Esther Hicks/Abraham: The Law of Attraction says, The essence of that which is like
unto itself, is drawn.

By knowing what you don't want you have a desire of what you do want and the moment you
have, that desire becomes part of Source Energy. Your Essence expands. The only thing we have
to do, being the physical extension of Source Energy, is to bring our vibration in alignment with
this expansion caused by our desire. When you are poor and you want to be rich you have to
think and feel rich for it will close the gap between who you are physically and what Source
Energy has just become. The more you feel good the more you get to experience those things
that automatically make you feel good. The trick is to feel good whatever happens around you.
Quoting Abraham by Esther Hicks: The more intense your positive feelings, the faster it is
coming to you.

I will let Esther Hicks do the speaking for herself? Here is the essence of the Abraham-Esther
Hicks message, distilled from workshops with Abraham since 1986.
1. You Are a Physical Extension of That Which is Non-physical.
All-That-Is, or that which you call God, is not finished and waiting for you to catch up. You are
the leading edge of thought, here seeking more: more of all that feels good to you, more of that

which is fresh and gloriously uplifting. You are, in essence, bringing heaven to earth.
2. You Are Here in This Body Because You Chose to Be Here.
You chose the opportunity to experience this delicious contrast in time and space, and with great
anticipation you came to co-create with other joy-seeking Beings, to fine-tune the process of
deliberate thought. What, where, when and with whom you create are your choices, too.
3. The Basis of Your Life is Freedom; the Purpose of Your Life is Joy.
You are free to choose to discover new avenues for your joy. In your joy you will grow; and in
your growth you add to the expansion of All-That-Is. However, you are also free to choose
bondage or pain...but everything anyone chooses is only because they believe it will help them
feel better.
4. You Are a Creator; You Create With Your Every Thought.
By the Universal Law of Attraction, you are attracting the essence of whatever you are choosing
to give your attention to whether wanted or unwanted. And so, you often create by default.
But you can know by how your emotion feels if what you are attracting (creating) is what you
are wanting or if it is not what you are wanting. Where is your attention focused?
5. Anything That You Can Imagine is Yours to Be or Do or Have.
As you ask yourself why you want it, the essence of your desire is activated, and the Universe
begins to bring it to you. The more intense your positive feelings, the faster it is coming to you. It
is as easy to create a castle as a button.
6. As You Are Choosing Your Thoughts, Your Emotions Are Guiding You.
Your loving Inner Being offers guidance in the form of emotion. Entertain a wanted or unwanted
thought, and you feel a wanted or unwanted emotion. Choose to change the thought and you
have changed the emotion and you have changed the creation. Make more choices in every day.
7. The Universe Adores You for it Knows Your Broadest Intentions.
You have chosen to come to earth with great intentions, and the Universe constantly guides you
on your chosen path. When you are feeling good, you are, in that moment, allowing more of that
which you have intended from your broader perspective. You are Spirit Incarnate.
8. Relax into Your Natural Well-Being. All is Well. (Really It Is!)
The essence of all that you appreciate is constantly flowing into your reality. As you find more
things to appreciate, your state of appreciation opens more avenues to more for which to feel
appreciation. As you think, you vibrate. As you vibrate, you attract.
9. You Are a Creator of Thoughtways on Your Unique Path of Joy.
No one can limit where you can direct your thought. There are no limits to your joyous journeys

to experience. On the path to your happiness you will discover all that you want to be or do, or
have. Allowing others their experiences allows you yours.
10. Actions to Be Taken and Possessions to Be Exchanged Are By-products of your Focus on Joy.
On your deliberately joyous journey your actions will be inspired, your resources will be
abundant, and you will know by the way you feel that you are fulfilling your reason for life.
Most have this one backwards, therefore most feel little joy in their actions or their possessions.
11. You May Appropriately Depart Your Body Without Illness or Pain.
You need not attract illness or pain as an excuse to leave your body. Your natural state - coming,
remaining or leaving - is that of health and Well-Being. You are free to choose otherwise.
12. You Can Not Die; You Are Everlasting Life.
In grace, you may choose to relax and allow your gentle transition back into your Non-physical
state of pure, positive Energy. Your natural state is that of Foreverness. Have fun with all of this!
You cant get it wrong, and you'll never get it done.

I think Esther Hicks would say: Have great joy with it!

In your joy you will grow; and in your growth you add to the expansion of All-That-Is.
There are no limits to your joyous journeys to experience.
When you are in sync with the Energy of Source, which is the Energy of Well-being, Well-being is
your experience. And when you're not you don't feel so good. Everything that you're living is a
perfect replica of the vibration of your being.
Here's a rule of thumb that will help you: If you believe that something is good, and you do it, it
benefits you. If you believe that something is bad, and you do it, it is a very detrimental
experience.

Your Gratitude List


Create An Attitude Of Gratitude

Make yourself a gratitude list and you'll be attracting everything you wish... Well, it's not really
working that way.
Gratitude and appreciation are great feelings and when you practice the skill of gratefulness you
learn to shift your focus from the negative to the positive. And that's wonderful because positive
thoughts fill your brain up with excellent fuel. It will do a much better job and makes it possible
to use your talents and skills to the very best. And of course, you'll be feeling a lot better by your
attention on the good in your day. And that's just what you want.
In all cases, gratitude is one of the most powerful feelings in the Univers. It raises your vibration
and gets you in harmony with your Higher Self or Source Energy.

But I also have a little warning about using this gratitude exercise. I've seen many articles and
video's on this subject and in many cases it seems they suppose that the mere act of writing your
gratitude-items down will bring you what you're grateful for. You might be ending up feeling a
lot of frustration because it is not the act of writing that will do the magic, so you can wait and be
fed. It is You who now willingly comes into action, becoming able to use your power, now
focusing on the opportunities that are presented all around you and grab them. The gratitude list
will only do the preparation to get you into the right mood. The feelings it causes will set up the
conditions for you to be able to get into the flow. And then you have to use this being in the zone
to make it happen or else nothing will occur.

The List of Gratitude

This exercise is simple to do if you schedule some time for it. It works best when you take ten
minutes before you go to sleep and 10 minutes just after you wake up. Take some piece of paper,
preferably a special notebook entitled something like 'My Attitude of Gratitude'. Write down 10
things you are grateful for in your life. Describe each one in at least 50 words. Don't forget to
mention the little facts for they are easily taken for granted.

Self Appreciation
To Make Your Brain Run Smoothly

You can do whatever exercise you get your hands on, without self appreciation they just won't
work or won't work very long. You can imagine yourself being the perfect person you want by
doing the Swish or you can fill a page with the things you are grateful for, in the end it is that
feeling of being proud of yourself that will uplift you and make the receiving possible.
I strongly believe in the principle 'Ask and you will Receive'. The asking part is not that difficult.
It's in the receiving that contradicting vibrations will block the things coming to you. And it is
merely in the beliefs of not being deserving that you don't get what you want.
People with high self esteem do know they deserve everything that the univers offers them,
simply by being alive. This next exercise will help others who have some difficulty believing this
truth.

Self Appreciation List


What makes you think you deserve all that you want? Is that a hard question to answer? It might
be that you don't give yourself enough credit for all the things you are doing. Instead of thinking
that you have to do all kinds of things in your daily life you might consider that you are that
wonderful person that chooses to do them. For it is a fact that nobody forces you to go to work to
support your family. You make that choice every single day for the benefit of yourself and others.

Give yourself the credit of doing all those marvellous things day in day out. Be proud of
yourself.
Make your Appreciation List by starting each sentence with 'I am so proud of myself for...'. Fill
in every aspect of your life where you know you choose the right thing to do to contribute like
'I am so proud of myself for getting out of bed and prepare breakfast even though the bed was
warm and I didn't want to get out'.
'I am so proud of myself for writing this piece of work although I wanted to make music'.
Go on and on untill it will make you feel so good about yourself. Make sure you write or type the
whole sentence starting with 'I am so proud of myself' for it will focus your attention on the
feelings of pride.
If you have a hard time finding things to be proud of make a list of all the things you do all day
long and you surely know what to feel pride for.
NLP Swish Pattern
A Powerful Way To Create Yourself

The NLP Swish Pattern


This NLP technique is one of the most powerful self esteem exercises I know. It reprograms your
mind from an undesirable state into empowerment.
As with any NLP-technique I urge you to follow the steps to the letter to get the most out of this
exercise.

In advance: the NLP Swish Pattern is initially meant to change a bad habit. In your mind you
break through an image of an undesired starting position to replace it with the ideal picture of

You. To use it successfully, you need to be in a comfortable place where you will not be
disturbed. It's better if you are wide awake for you have to focus on the images in your mind and
not fighting your sleep. Here we go.

1. Explore the starting point. Check what is going on in the situation where you are not happy.
What happens just before it's getting bad. What is it that usually precedes the undesirable
situation?
Make the picture as real as possible with sounds, colors, feelings, taste and smell. And feel your
emotions as if this is the real situation. Make this picture compleet and alive. Then put it aside.
2. Imagine yourself in your ideal state. See yourself with your mind's eyes as whole, perfect,
strong, powerful, harmonious, loving and happy as can be. Make it a real attractive picture. It
must be compelling and irresistable to you. If you see this would you ever go back into that
starting situation? Of course not!
3. Now take the image of the starting position and make it bright. Feel how you don't like it.
Next, take the ideal picture and put it in the middle of the starting position but pull it back as if in
a slingshot. Pull it back as far as you can untill you can only see a tiny spot in the middle of your
picture. Feel the resistance of the rubber band. Keep it a moment and then...
4. Say WOOSH or SWISH while you let the slingshot go and let it burst through your starting
picture and replace it completely. See your ideal and feel the difference. Enjoy this moment a
little while.
5. Think a moment of something completely different, like your phonenumber backwards, before
you do it once again. Repeat this procedure 5 times, each time faster and faster untill the ideal
picture automatically takes over in a fraction of a second.
6. Test the result by looking at the starting situation. If it is not immediately replaced by the ideal
picture repeat the whole procedure a few times again.

There is no better way to tell you what visualization is and how important it is than by quoting
Bob Proctor. In an interview with Ryan Higgins about 'mindmovies' and visualising he says:

with a picture and the picture moves into form. It all happens by law.
One of the laws, one of the great laws, is the law of perpetual transmutation of energy. Energy is

You and I have been given creative faculties unlike any other form of animal life. We're the
highest form of creation on the planet and we've been given creative faculties while we've got the
ability to create a vision or an image in our mind. Imagination is the mental faculty out of which
a mental picture arrives. Now, unfortunately, as kids we treat imagination as it's something just
for kids. And when you start going to school then boom, they put a stop on it. Stop daydreaming.
But what the child is actually doing is excercising one of the most powerful faculties that we
have been given. We have got these higher faculties but we don't understand that.
...... an individual has the ability to build an image right here in their mind. And I think one of
the great problems is when I say people don't understand their mind. They don't understand how
mind works........

Emotion is what has to be connected to this vision. The vision is what you build in your
conscious mind.
You see the vision that you put up in your mind is build with your imagination. You got
imagination, perception, the will, reason, intuition,.. These are all higher faculties.
We have been raised to live through our senses. We have been teached to trust what we see, hear,
smell, taste, touch. So we're letting the present control our mind.
But the imagination is the mental faculty out of which we build our mental pictures, that is in the
conscious mind.
The subconscious is the emotional mind but that is also universal intelligence. So when you turn
your vision over to your emotional mind you're connecting up to the entire universe. And that's
the part that the average individual on the street just doesn't get.
So if you talk about your emotions, what you really talk about is universal intelligence. You are
really talking about that part of us, that's where the spiritual essence of ourselves take over.
And spirit always operate by law. It never operates other than perfectly. And so when you turn
the image over, if you just keep watching this and keep watching it you get to a point where it
streams right to your subconscious mind. Cause your subconscious mind is your universal mind.
And when that happens, this thing you're living in you call your body, the vibratory range of it
changes,so your actions changes and what you're attracting to your life changes.
Your body is energy. Mind is movement. We're talking about mindmovies. What is mind? Most
people don't know. Mind is a movement. When you put a movie into that movement it has to get
into form. It's an absolute law and the only way you can stop it is to throw the movie away. It's
like planting a seed in the earth. If I plant a carrot seed and I keep the earth fertile and wet that
carrot is gonna grow. It's gonna grow just as sure as it's gonna get dark at night.
When you keep streaming this movie into your mind, you keep this physical instrument you're
living in, in a vibration that's in harmony with the movie and when that happens you start to
attract everything in the univers that is required for the manifestation of that movie. That's the
emotional mind. So when you say is it important to get emotions involved. Yes.
.........
And through repetition their live is gonna get better.

Universal Mind
Isn't it great? Everything you see and everything that is happening in your life is the result of
pictures in your mind. Because if you keep repeating those thoughts and you get emotionally
involved in it, like you do when you believe something for sure, your subconscious mind or
universal mind takes over and manifests the images in the physical world. And that's your life
we're talking about.
So instead of pulling dreadful pictures about yourself over to your subconscious mind start
repeating wonderful images. Start visualization as if it is true untill it becomes reality. Fake it
untill you make it.
Before I give you some tools to make visualization easy I give you some information about it

Creative Visualization
Creative visualization (sports visualization) refers to the practice of seeking to affect the outer
world via changing one's thoughts. It is the basic technique underlying positive thinking and is
frequently used by athletes to enhance their performance.
The concept originally arose in the US with the nineteenth century New Thought movement. One
of the first Americans to practice the technique of creative visualizing was Wallace Wattles
(18601911), who wrote The Science of Getting Rich. In this book, Wattles advocates creative
visualizing as the main technique for realizing one's goals; a practice that stems from the Hindu

Monistic theory of the Universe that is subscribed to by the book.


Creative visualization is the technique of using one's imagination to visualize specific behaviors
or events occurring in one's life. Advocates suggest creating a detailed schema of what one
desires and then visualizing it over and over again with all of the senses (i.e., what do you see?
what do you feel? what do you hear? what does it smell like?). For example, in sports a golfer
may visualize the "perfect" stroke over and over again to mentally train muscle memory.
In one of the most well-known studies on Creative Visualization in sports, Russian scientists
compared four groups of Olympic athletes in terms of their training schedules:
Group 1 = 100% physical training;
Group 2 - 75% physical training with 25% mental training;
Group 3 - 50% physical training with 50% mental training;
Group 4 - 25% physical training with 75% mental training.
Group 4, with 75% of their time devoted to mental training, performed the best. "The Soviets had
discovered that mental images can act as a prelude to muscular impulses."
Visualization practices are a common form of spiritual exercise, especially in esoteric traditions.
In Vajrayana Buddhism, complex visualizations are used to attain Buddhahood, e.g. Generation
Stage.
Additionally, visualization is used extensively in sports psychology.

Tools to visualize
I will give you some simple tools to make imagining your perfect self and your ideal life easier.

1. Use the meditation self esteem tools to relax and picture yourself in your ideal state.
2. Take the affirmations you use and build a dynamic colorful story around it. It helps when you
record it on tape and play it when you are in a relaxed state.
3. Make yourself a visionboard or dreamboard. Cut and paste your detailed dream-pictures on it
and put it in a place where you can see it regularly. You might make a digital one and place it on
your computerscreen.

4. Make a Vision Video. To make your visionboard come alive you could turn it into a movie
with pictures, text and your favourite music. Use the free Vision Video Creation Kit by signing

Why would you meditate?


Although meditation self esteem is not an official name for the kind of meditation I will discuss
here, I will use it to stress the importance of meditation on growing self esteem. Meditation
already has effects on self esteem, health and happiness when you do it a couple of minutes a
day. You become relaxed and let go of feelings of stress. The result is inner calmness and peace
of mind.
When your mind is still, your feellings will be calm and it shows also in your body. Muscle
tension lowers, blood pressure drops, stress hormones are reduced and the body recovers. People
who meditate are healthier than others who don't.
Your self esteem is build on believes about yourself and believes are thoughts you think over and
over, with a feeling of certainty.
Although the believes usually don't reflect who you are in Essence, you think they do and so they
got their impact on your health, success and happiness. Because meditation self esteem is
focusing on clearing your mind and letting go of thoughts we use to attach to, the devastating
effect of possible negative thoughts about yourself ceases.
The most influential aspect of meditation self esteem is that it brings you back to your Inner Self,
that part of you that is your Essence or Spirit. In that sense it becomes a spiritual experience.

How to meditate?
There are numerous ways to meditate and they all come together to clearing your mind by
focusing on something. I'll give you some guidelines in these meditation tips:
- Take some time off - start with 5 minutes and you can increase it to more than an hour - and
don't let anyone disturb you. Turn off the phone.
- You can either sit or lie down. I prefer to sit because it is harder to keep awake when laying.
The most common way to sit is legs crossed on the ground (lotus) but you can also sit on a chair.
To concentrate your attention more easily it is important to stretch your back.
- Focus your attention on your breathing. Breath in. Be aware of the air flowing into your lungs.
Breath out. Concentrate on the air going out. Don't change anything in your natural breathing.
Just follow it with your attention.
- Relax your body with every breath out.
- Keep it this way. When your thoughts drift away - and they certainly will do - bring your focus
back to your breathing and relax some more.
- Do this regularly. To experience the benefits you should make this a daily practice.

Particularly good exercises to clear your mind


The next simple exercises are the best I found to clear your mind from any thought. Thoughts,
especially negative thoughts, are blocking you from being in touch with your Essence. So by
clearing your mind you'll be close to who you are.
And while you'd better focus on nothing than on negative thoughts, it will help you building your
self esteem.

Focus your self like a cheetah and wait for that next thought. Jump on it, as soon as it appears.
Was there any?
- where does the next thought come from?
Focus your mind on becoming aware of the arising of the next thought. Did you notice?
- focus your mind on two places at the same time
Put your hands on your knies while sitting on a chair. Now focus your mind on both hands at the
same time. Your right brain will take over because your left brain can only focus on one place at
a time. Your creative right brain is closest to your Essence.

So, how'd we get here?


Way back in 2008, my business partner Glen and I were stuck in a rut. We were what you could
