Angular Measurement for Mechanical Engineering

Objective:

To measure angle using Sine Bar and universal Bevel Protractor.

To understand the advantages limitations of each instrument.

Equipment:

Sine bar/table
Dial Test Indicator(DTI)
Set of Gauge blocks Surface table
Bevel Protractor
Bubble clinometer
Combination square set
Straight edge
Engineer square

Theory:
Angular measurement can be accomplished using a bevel protractor which is
attached a rule. Bevel protractor can be moved along the rule and adjusted to any
position. The bevel protractor has a flat base permitting to rest squarely the work
surface. The bevel protractor measures angles directly.

Sine Bar measures angles indirectly. The sine bar consists of a bar of stabilized,
highly finished chrome steel, resting on cylindrical rollers.
When a sine bar is placed on a level surface the top edge will be parallel to that
surface. If one roller is raised by a known distance using gauge blocks, then the top
edge of the bar will be tilted b the same amount forming angle that may be
calculated by the application of the sine rule.

Procedure:
Sine Bar
1. Clean the apparatus contact surface.
2. Place the specimen on the sine bar.
