Rewrite the addition questions about the horizontal way to vertical way, then find the answer.

Resources

Wheel game.
Mini white boards.
Doll, pencil case, pencil, and bottle of water.
Feathers, basket, and six different addition questions.
Sticks, box, small balls, and six different addition
questions.
Baskets, place value manipulative, and six different
addition questions.
Box, ropes, magnet, and six different addition
questions.

Six cards for each student.

Opening:

Start with a short scene.


o Put two different objects with prices on it, ask the students to count the prices.
o Ask the students to write the addition question on the board ( ask them to write it in a horizontal way
the way they know).

Start introducing the lesson.


o Ask the students to write the previous question in another way ( let them discover the vertical way).
o Ask the students to solve the question on their mini board.
o Check their answers and discover if they know how to solve.

The students will play the five activities in turn.


Each student will get the six cards (to solve the questions) ,a paper container( to hold the
cards), and a stick( draw a tick when finish each activity).
Independent Experience (small group activity 1)
Turn the spinner.

Students will get two wheels divided into eight parts, each part has a number.
Students will trun the first wheel, and write the number depending on the wheel, and then the seco
wheel then adds the two digits.

Find the question cards behind the feathers.

Students will get six different feathers.


Behind each feather, they will find a question card.
They will need to solve the question on their card.

Independent Experience (small group activity 3)


Extract the sticks from the box.

Students will get a box, and inside the box there are six sitcks.
In each stick there is a question cards.
They will need to solve the question on their card.

Make your own digit.
Each student will get a basket.

Attract the questions cards from the box.

Students will get a box, and in the box there are six different cards.
Each student will get a rope and magnet, then attract the cards.

Plenary

Get the students to work on their activity book.


High level students start solving questions: 12,13,14,15,16, and 17.
Middle level students start solving questions: 6,7,8,9,10,and 11.

Assessment

Instruct the group that needs help.


Ensure all the students are able to rewrite the addition questions about the horizontal way to vertical way, then find t
answer.

Most of the students took time to understand the lesson, and the activities we
very helpful because, when the students began the activities and started
participating, things got better.
The students were able to answer the critical thinking questions, they respon
to the questions easily.
Unfortunately, I wasnt monitoring the time after the first two activities, and
spent so much time that we had to rush through the other activities.
I followed the strategy that I asked the students to raise their hands if they ne
to answer or ask, and not allow them to come to the board. In result, I preven
creating messy or annoying.
From the students behavior, I understand that I should retell the instructions
the students, I think it is better to repeat instead of completing the five activi
and the studnets misunderstand what they have to do.
