2.Key Scriptures
Hebrews 9:1128
11 But when Christ came as high priest of the good things
that are now already here,[a] he went through the greater
and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human
hands, that is to say, is not a part of this creation. 12 He
did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves;
but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own
blood, thus obtaining[b] eternal redemption.

So if by the work of the cross we are
redeemed, then before we were slaves.
God has purchased our freedom, and we
are no longer in bondage to sin or to the
Old Testament law.
Redemption often involves the paying of
a ransom, a price that makes
redemption possible.
For example,
- The Israelites were redeemed from
Egypt.
- We were redeemed from the power of
sin and the curse of the Law (Gal. 3:13)
through Jesus (Rom. 3:24; Col. 1:14).
- We were bought with a price (1 Cor.
6:20; 7:23).
- Christs death on the cross was the
payment of a ransom price (Mark
10:45) by which sinners are set free.
1 John 1:79
But if we walk in the light, as he is in
the light, we have fellowship with one
another, and the blood of Jesus, his
Son, purifies us from all[a] sin.
8 If we claim to be without sin, we
deceive ourselves and the truth is not in
us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is
faithful and just and will forgive us our
sins and purify us from all
unrighteousness.
Romans 5:9
9 Since we have now been justified by
his blood, how much more shall we be
saved from Gods wrath through him!
The person who trusts in Christ
becomes, in Christ, all that God
requires that person to be, all that they
could never be in themselves
2 Corinthians 5:21
God made him who had no sin to be
sin[a] for us, so that in him we might
become the righteousness of God.
Hebrews 10:1920
Therefore, brothers and sisters, since
we have confidence to enter the Most
Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by
a new and living way opened for us
through the curtain, that is, his body,
David Wilkinson:
There is another benefit of the crossGods
delight comes in his enjoyment of our
company.
Before the cross, there was no access to God
for the general public; only the high priest
could enter the Holy of holies. Now Jesus
cross made a path for us into the Fathers
presence. By his grace alone, God tore down
the wall that blocked us from his presence.
Now he could come out to man, to embrace
his prodigals and sinners of all sorts.
Hebrews 13:12
And so Jesus also suffered outside the
city gate to make the people holy
through his own blood.

How much more, then, will the blood of
Christ, who through the eternal Spirit
offered himself unblemished to God,
cleanse our consciences from acts that
lead to death,[a] so that we may serve

us timid, but gives us power, love and

they did not love their lives so much as

4. Why Blood?

___________________________
Sin is the problem and the blood is the
redemption price which ransoms or
buys us back from the result of sin
which is death. The blood pays the price
which cancels out the offence of sin; so
a life is laid down in payment for sin.

Second, the use of blood in sacrifice

is a price-paying act: to make
atonement or reconcile, which simply

means to pay the penalty.

In the Garden of Gethsemane Jesus prayed,
Not my will, but yours be done. Luke 22:42
The strain of death was so great upon Him that
blood vessels in His face broke, and, mixed
with perspiration fell to the ground in great
drops. That blood speaks of redemption from
rebellion exercising our wills against the will
of God doing our thing and all its awful
consequences.

The thorn was a symbol of Gods curse
on sin (Genesis 3:18). It was correct for
Jesus, when suffering on the cross to
wear on His head the symbol of that
curse, the crown of thorns (Matthew
27:29). This showed that He was taking
the curse upon Himself. The blood shed
speaks of redemption from the curse of
sin.
